Albert Lewis, 87, of Kuna, passed away the evening of
November 30
th
, 2011 at home with his loving wife Chris “River” (Albert’s
special name for her) at his side.
Albert was born April 20, 1924 in Meridian, Idaho to Lester
and Clara Lewis. He was raised on an 80 acre farm with his parents and 9
siblings. He was educated in the Meridian School District and was a straight A
student. His work on the “Home Ranch”
taught him the value of hard work.
Leaving the farm life, Albert worked for M.K. for several
months in Hawaii. In 1944 Albert joined the 82
nd
Airborne. He became
a paratrooper instructor and was promoted into the Honor Guard, where he
“jumped” for honorary personnel. He was
stationed in Fort Benning, Georgia and Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After his
discharge in 1949, Albert returned home to Boise.
In 1950, Albert married Wanda Green. They had three children;
a son, Lynn and two daughters, Cheree and Cheryl. Albert and Wanda later
divorced.
Being the unique man Albert was and with the self-taught
abilities he possessed, he started building homes throughout the Treasure
Valley, to the Meridian, Kuna area and beyond.
It developed into many years of hard but rewarding work.
On June 8, 1979, Albert married Deanna Christine “River”
Banks. Chris brought two daughters to
the marriage, Brenda and Traci- they captured Albert’s heart in no time.
Albert’s years of building slowly came to an end but again,
his extraordinary abilities focused in the field of law enforcement. Albert
dedicated over 40 years of his life, many of them after his regular working
hours, in Law Enforcement. He typically volunteered
for no pay just for the love of keeping people on the "straight and
narrow". He worked for the Garden
City Police Department and the Boise County Sheriff's Department for many years,
driving his own Lincoln Continental as a patrol car. He will always be remembered by his radio
call number of "2263".
Arresting felons was his specialty and he knew a lot of people that
would help track them down. About 1980, Albert
started working for the Idaho Outfitters and Guides Licensing Board as an
undercover enforcement agent. Once again he excelled and did his usual outstanding
job. He retired as a Police Officer in July of 1993 after 12 years of service.
His last enforcement position as a security guard for the Salvation Army in the
Boise area in which he retired from in 2003.
Albert truly loved the outdoors. He and River spent many years snowmobiling
with family and friends. They also loved
fishing. So when the weather broke, they
would hook the jet boat up to the motorhome and leave for Anderson, Owyhee or
Brownlee. Brownlee soon became Albert’s
sanctuary; this is where his ashes will be spread. He loved nothing more than
taking his son and grandsons hunting and fishing.
Those years brought Albert and River unbelievable joy. Albert and River’s years of hunting,
snowmobiling and fishing brought many wonderful friends to their lives. Albert never knew a stranger, he loved life
and he loved people. One of Albert’s greatest memories was taking all 8
grandkids to Disneyland in his motorhome.
Even at the great age of 87, Albert’s life seemed short to
many, but to those who were touched by him understand that the quality of
existence, exceeds the quality of time, in which one lives. Albert’s vigorous personality was always
lurking behind his smile, offering words from his unique outlook in life
brought so much joy to family and friends. Albert will be especially remembered
for his keen intelligence, quick wit and spirit of adventure, endless curiosity
and his special love for family and friends.
Albert is survived by his wife, Deanna Christine Lewis; son,
Lynn Lewis (grandchildren Cody and Sage Lewis); daughters, Cheree and husband
Jack Oakes (grandchildren Cassie and husband Jereme Hakala and 3
great-grandchildren, Joie and husband David Gloudeman, Kelly and wife Katie
Oakes and 2 great-grandchildren, and Jessie and husband Seth Weidkamp); Cheryl
LaBronte (grandchildren Kevin and wife Erica LaBronte and Ami LaBronte); Brenda
and husband Micky Walker (grandchild Elizabeth Walker); Traci and husband
Steven Holmes (grandchildren Elyshia, Marc and Brayden Holmes); two sisters,
Juanita Ellis and Ruth Walker; brother, Ted Lewis and wife Pat.
Albert was preceded in death by his mother and father,
brothers Joe and Roy; sisters, Minnie, Bertha Sarah and infant sister, Mary.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 14,
2012 from 1-4 at the Kuna Community Hall, West Main Street in Kuna, Idaho 83634.

I ain’t much good at prayin’, and you may not know me, Lord.
I ain’t much seen in churches where they preach Thy Holy
Word.
But you may have observed me out here on the desert plains,
A lookin’ after horses, feelin’ thankful when it rains,
Admirin’ Thy great handiwork, the miracle of grass,
Aware of all my loved ones in the way they came to pass.
That hired men on horseback and the livestock that we tend
Can look up at the stars at night and know we’ve got a
Friend
So here’s another day comin’ on, remindin’ us again
Of loved ones who’s coming brought good will into the hearts
of men.
A cowboy ain’t no preacher, but if you’ll hear my prayer,
I’ll ask as good as we have had for family everywhere.
Don’t let no hearts be bitter, don’t let no child be cold.
Make easy beds for them that’s sick, and them that’s weak
and old.
Let kindness bless the trail we ride, no matter what we’re
after, and keep us on Your side, in tears as well as laughter.
I’ve seen old cows a-starvin’, and it ain’t no happy sight.
Please don’t leave no one hungry, on this night-No man, no
woman, no child and no critter on-four-feet-I’ll aim to do my best to help you
find ‘em food to eat.
I’m just a sinful cowpoke,-ain’t got no business prayin’-
But still I hope You’ll ketch a word or two of what I’m sayin’.
So one thing more I’ll ask You, just help them what You
can-to keep my family healthy for the future sons of man!
Love, Brenda, your daughter
