Albert Harry Roark

Albert Harry Roark

Al was born in Meridian, Idaho to Harry and Marie Roark on his Father’s birthday, February 17, 1926.  He was called home December 4, 2011 surrounded by his family in the home where he lived for 56 years.  Al attended Eagle High School until he left for the Navy at the age of 17 to fight for his country in WWII.  After returning from the service Al married the love of his life, Bethel Castor.  Al and Bethel celebrated their 63 rd wedding anniversary on August 11, 2011.

Al loved bowling and was a member of the US Bowling Congress for more than 50 years, was a member of the Elk’s Lodge for 46 years and a lifetime member of the Idaho Peace Officers Association.

Al started driving truck for Coca-Cola in 1948, then American Linen in 1951 and ended his truck driving career delivering farm trucks for L.B. Leasing in 2000.  He started his career in law enforcement as an Ada County Sheriff’s Deputy in 1959.  After 6 years as a Deputy, his path led him to the Idaho Probation and Parole Department where he retired after 17 years for a total of 23 years in law enforcement.  In addition to their full time jobs, Al and Bethel owned and operated the Viking car wash, motel and apartments but still had time to take the family on a yearly vacation.  Almost every weekend and some evenings were spent boating at Lucky Peak and camping at many different places including the property they own in Cascade, Idaho.

After retirement Al and Bethel traveled to Indio, California for twenty winters (because Al hated cold weather) to work at the Riverside County Fair.

Al was never too busy for family and friends and he never met a child he didn’t like.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Dolores and Evelyn, his brother, Jim, a son-in-law, Terry Fisch and an infant daughter.

He is survived by his wife, Bethel;  two daughters, Teresa (Greg) Greene and LaMoyne (Terry) Wingate;  grandkids, Crystal, Shari (Tim), Darcie (Chad), Trish (Cody) and Travis; and four great grandkids, Haley, Chase, Dylan and Sam;  sister, Lois (Fred);  several nieces, nephews and his faithful companion, Freckles.

Funeral services will be held at the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will follow at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery  at 2:00 p.m.

Due to Al’s love of children we chose the Children’s Make-A-Wish Foundation, 4344 W. Emerald, Boise, Idaho   83706  or a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.

Al loved people and to him a stranger was just someone he hadn’t met.  We’ll miss the laughter and fun Al brought into our lives everyday and he will live in our hearts forever.
