Alvin R. Walter, 89, of Boise, passed away on
Tuesday, Jul. 3, 2012, in a local care center. A funeral service will be held
on Friday, Jul. 13, 2012, at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise. Burial with
military honors will follow at Cloverdale Cemetery. A celebration of life will
follow from 1-7 p.m. at The Idaho Outdoor Assoc., 3401 W. Wright St., Boise.
Alvin was born on Jun. 18, 1923, in Merino, CO, to
Jake H. Walter and Lydia Blum Walter. Alvin graduated from Jerome High School
in 1943. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1943 during WWII and served over two years
in the War. Alvin then obtained his B.A.in Education at S.I.C.E. in Albion, ID
in 1951. He married E. Colleen Gardner on May 31, 1947 in Elko, NV.
Alvin taught for 31 years in the Boise School
District, at North Jr. High, and mainly Hillside Jr. High, teaching math,
health and physical education. He also coached football, basketball, wrestling,
track, baseball, and fast pitch softball. Alvin retired in Sept. of 1985. Alvin
enjoyed woodworking, fishing, horseback riding, golf, farming and yardwork. He
had a great love of coaching and continued to coach and referee for family
members events well after retiring. He especially enjoyed spending time with
his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Alvin was a member of Phi Delta Kapp, I.E.A.,
N.E.A., Elks, USS Idaho Battleship Assoc., Albion Alumni, Jerome High School
Alumni, Veteran’s Assoc., Fireman and Police Assoc., Red Cross, Cancer Assoc.,
Disabled American Vet’s Assoc., American Legion, and Chamber of Commerce.
He is survived by his sons, Bob and Brian Walter, of
Boise; daughters, Gwenna Lough of Jerome, and Pam Butler (Ron) of Boise;
brother-in-law, Larry Gardner (Shirley) of Boise; grandchildren, Patrick Lough
of Boise, Ashley Pickett (Ron) of Jerome, Thomas Butler of Boise, Shaunta
Butler of San Diego, Kristen Walter and Megan Walter of Vancouver, WA, and
Jason Walter, of Coeur d’Alene; great grandchildren, Trinitey, Mynley, Kaliyah,
and Royce; many nieces and nephews; and God children Jeanie of Sacramento, and
Cheryl of Jerome.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 31 yrs
Colleen, his parents, brothers, and sisters.
