Alyce was born in Binger, Oklahoma, February 20, 1928, the
only child to George and Mabel Schultz.
She
passed away on March 9, 2014, after a brief battle with complications following
a fall resulting in a broken hip.
When she was eight years old, because of the Depression and
the Oklahoma Dust Bowl, her parents moved to Huston, Idaho.
She was raised in the Huston/Caldwell area
and attended Caldwell High School.
She met Jerl L. “Red” Mathews in 1945 and after a whirlwind
romance of 6 weeks, they married on September 1
st
in Boise.
They had two daughters Ellen Marie and Nancy
Ann.
She was a bookkeeper for Kruse Hammock Electric, J. Weil
Food Service, Associated Foods, and Easy’s Appliance Repair before she and her husband
began The Mathews Company Appliance Repair Service in approximately 1980.
Alyce enjoyed traveling and seeing new places.
Her favorite trip was to England in the
80’s.
She longed to take a cruise
through the Panama Canal but didn’t get to do that.
She also enjoyed league bowling at Westgate
Lanes with her husband and two daughters until the death of her husband in
1992.
She loved reading, old movies,
cross word, word search, and jigsaw puzzles, electronic solitaire, and her monthly
birthday luncheons with her neighbor ladies.
She was preceded in death by both parents and her husband of
46 years.
She is survived by daughters Ellen Harris and Nancy (&
Vince) Main both of Boise; granddaughters Laura Giehll-Mathews of Boise and
Tina (& Bryan) Hefley of Emmett; great grandchildren Kristin, Megan, Eric,
Jacob, and Ian; and great-great grandchildren Aiden and Ezra; also two beloved
cousins Nadine Foster of Clinton, OK and Leon Wie

Cherry Hill, NJ.
She is also survived by
step grandchildren Kathy (& Bryce) Bronson of Nampa, Cheryl (& Randy)
Redmon of Cascade, Don (& Natalie) Harris, Jr., of Lindon, UT, Jeannette
(& Ron) Marler of Boise, Pam (& Rich) Owens of Boise, Trish (& Don)
Tonkin of Boise, Kelly (& Julia) Harris of Randallstown, MD, Brad Main of
Boise, and Jason Main of Boise, and numerous step great and great-great
grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday, March 15, 2014, at 1:00 pm at
Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, 5400 Fairview Avenue, Boise, followed by a
procession to Dry Creek Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her
husband.
Friends and family are welcome
to join for a gathering after the service at the home of Ellen Harris.
