Ann Marceil Terteling Sparks

Ann Terteling Sparks passed away unexpectedly at her home in Boise on March 1, 2011. Ann, the first child of Joseph Wesley and Reba Marguerite Terteling, was born on November 25, 1933 in Boise. She spent most of her life in Idaho, attended Boise schools, and subsequently graduated from Annie Wright Seminary in Tacoma, Washington. After graduation she attended the John Robert Powers Fashion School in NYC and Los Angeles.

Ann was one of a kind....sometimes flamboyant and even eccentric, sometimes irreverent, always humorous and forever doing something unusual or exciting. She loved spending time traveling especially with her children, family and friends. Many of her trips were of magnificent proportion. She enjoyed the Orient Express, the Concord, the Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth II, the Chunnel, an African Safari, just to name a few. She experienced England and Malta with Barbe and David, China, India, most of Europe, Australia, Africa, and a few places in South America. She was a very generous and giving person. She owned a wonderful home-away-from-home in Maui which she shared for many years with anyone who wanted to visit. She also had the pleasure of spending a lot of time at her condo in McCall, cooking in her “favorite” kitchen. She LOVED to cook and entertain, hosting many wonderful parties and gatherings of all sizes, from her extravagant house warming to galas for the Boise Philharmonic, Vice President Mondale, luncheons for Clint Eastwood, Michael Warren, Nancy McKeon, weddings, receptions, and dinners for close friends. She had the honor of meeting Sir Anthony Hopkins, Harry Belafonte, and Hal Holbrook.

Though she was in poor health the last few years, she never complained nor modified her life style. Ann loved her pets (especially her dogs, too many to name), her cars (especially her classic “Sophie”) and all of her family (especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren).

She was preceded in death by several loved ones, including her parents and her husband, Jim Sparks. She is survived by her daughter Barbara (Barbe) Ann Dingeldein (John) and son David Hale Sparks (Barbara), grandchildren Jordhan Navarro (Christian), Jonet Greenfield (V.J.), James Sparks, Jhonecia, JoyLyn, and Juliana Dingeldein, her great-grandchildren, Malachi, Grace, Jahzera, Belle, Kennadi, Rhythm, Freedom, her brother, Joe L. Terteling (Felinda), the extended Terteling family including Joe N., Tom, Andy, their families, and Carolyn Terteling, as well as her cousin Kathryn Jones, her children Carrie, Craig, Brian and their families, many, many special God children and friends, including one who checked on her nearly every day, Jeff Strong.

We will all remember Ann’s incredible spirit, her determination to be herself, and her great willingness to share.

Memorial celebration of Ann’s life will be held Friday, March ll, at 2 p.m. at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise, Idaho. Reception to follow.

Memorials may be sent to: the Humane Society, or St. Alphonsus Festival of Trees.
