Barbara Marie King was born in Washington, D. C . on January 27, 1927. God called her home late Friday night, July 12, 2013. Barbara died as she wished, in her home and in the arms of our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ . She was a loving daughter of the late Robert Eugene King and Eunice Jordan.

Barbara married Robert "Bud" Alvin Kifer, on September 22, 1944 in Washington D. C . Soon after her husband's discharge from the Navy in March, 1946, the couple moved west and settled in Twisp, WA and a few years later to Brewster, W A . By 1951, Bud and Barbara had three sons and they moved to Richland, WA and in 1957, the family moved to the Idaho Falls, ID area . In subsequent years, Barbara lived in Simi and Chatsworth, CA . On Oct . 15, 1965 she married LaVar Keller Hoff in Logan, UT. They came to Boise in 1966, and remained here for the rest of their lives.

In her children's earlier years she was primarily a homemaker. Her early working life was varied. She waitressed, was a certified Nurse's Aide, was an assistant in an Optometrists’ office and a librarian. In later years she held positions with the legal department of Westinghouse and technical librarian for General Electric's nuclear aircraft project, both of which were at the National Reactor Testing Site near Idaho Falls, Idaho. She also held multiple secretarial positions with Atomics International while in California and later became the Executive Secretary for the Head of the Department of Bacteriology, Utah State University. She was particularly fond of being her church’s secretary. Barbara ended her working life as Executive Secretary for the Director of the Easter Seal Society in Boise.

Barbara battled numerous serious medical issues for more than 30 years. Despite these challenges she remained a committed wife and mother and a longtime member of the Treasure Valley Baptist Church in Meridian, ID, which she faithfully attended until a few years ago when her health no longer permitted it .

She was the last of her parent's children. Besides her parents, Barbara was predeceased by: an infant sister, Helen June King on Dee . 5, 1925; brother, Eugene Jordan King who died in WW II in the Battle of the Coral Sea, May 7, 1942; a half-sister, Lola King Stageberg Hooning , Nov. 17, 1991; a granddaughter, Sandi L . Kifer Hug, Aug. 2, 2008 and grandsons, Jordan Robert Kifer, Aug. 6, 1978 and James "Jed" Daniel Kifer, Jan 7, 2010.
She is survived by her three sons: Paul Eugene Kifer of Boise, ID; Daniel Alvin Kifer (Kathy) of Powell, WY; and David Harold Kifer (Karen) of Boise, ID. The following grandchildren survive: Misty Marie Kifer and Robert Paul Kifer of Boise; Lieutenant Benjamin Robert Kifer, USAF (Meghan), Fort Pope, NC; Thomas Jordan Kifer, Honolulu, HI; Matthew Edward Kifer of Laramie, WY. In addition, the following great grandchildren survive: Cory James Jenson, Boise, ID; Chandee Lee Asay, Coby L. Jensen and Breanna Marie Daniels, all of Richfield, UT and Henry James Kifer of South Carolina.

Other survivors include the following step-children: Doyle (Kathy), Clair (Donna) and Dwight Hoff, of Boise, ID.; Cathey (Larry) Yowell, of Pueblo West, CO., and Margo Hoff Nate (Larry) of Salt Lake City, UT. There are also several step-grandchildren including Logan Hoff with the USAF at Ellsworth AFB, S.D.

There will be no viewing. A graveside service will be held on Thurs. July 18 th at 10 a.m., for family and close friends followed by interment in the Dry Creek Cemetery, 9600 Hill Road, Boise, ID. Arrangements by Alden-Waggoner.
