Bertha Luella Carpenter

Bertha was born on January 13, 1929, in Kuna, Idaho to Walter B. and Mary Belle (Ellis) Ellis. Bertha remained in the Treasure Valley all her life. She resided in Meridian, Idaho until her passing on June 9, 2024. 

Bertha graduated from Boise High School in 1947, attended Boise Secretarial Center and took various courses at Boise Junior College now Boise State University. 

Bertha met the love of her life, Dale Everett Carpenter, and married him on August 18, 1949, in the Boise Gospel Tabernacle in Boise, Idaho. They were married almost 63 years before his death on May 6, 2012.

Bertha worked for 6 years as secretary to the Commissioner of the Department of Public Assistance, now a part of Health & Welfare. In 1955 Bertha went to work for Boise Payette Lumber Company, working as a secretary. Bertha was working for Boise Payette Lumber when they became Boise Cascade Corporation where she was an executive secretary and administrative assistant to the vice president and general counsel. In 1970 she was promoted to be manager of the Records Management Department where she was instrumental in the development of an innovative Records Management Program for the corporation. Bertha was the first female Certified Records Manager in the state of Idaho. Bertha retired from Boise Cascade after 31 years of service on December 31, 1985.

Bertha joined the American Records Management Association (ARMA) in 1970. Bertha served two terms on the Board of Directors for the local chapter and was President in 1981-82. 

Bertha’s outside interests involved her entire family. She enjoyed her times at the family cabin in McCall, Idaho and various family vacations. Bertha loved the adventure of traveling and experiencing new cultures and foods. Dale and Bertha shared a passion for their travel experiences traveling to many different countries and throughout the United States. She brought home gardening ideas and home decorating inspirations from her travels. 

Bertha was a long-time member of City Hope – Boise church (formerly Central Assembly). She enjoyed her years of involvement with the church’s senior group, “The Primetimers”. Bertha was instrumental in assisting, planning and coordinating their many trips (both day excursions and out-of-state adventures). 

Bertha’s deep faith in Jesus Christ was at the very foundation of her life. EVERYTHING revolved around her Love of Jesus. 

Bertha is survived by her daughters, Sue Carpenter of Federal Way, Washington and DeAnn Slaughter (John) of Boise, Idaho.

Bertha is preceded in death by her sweetheart, Dale Carpenter on May 6, 2012.

The family suggests memorials may be given to Carpenter’s Cross Ministries, 4123 N Farlight Way, Boise, Idaho 83713 or Hidden Acres, P.O. Box 901, Kaufman, Texas 75142-0901. These faith-based organizations were dear to Bertha.

A private interment of Bertha will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024, at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. Bertha’s Celebration Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at City Hope - Boise Church, 8650 W. Fairview Ave., Boise, Idaho 83704.
