Beryl passed into the Loving Arms of Jesus on Wednesday November 20th, 96 years young and after a beautiful life well lived. Her kindness touched all who met her. She shined the light of God and spread his love to all, modeling Jesus with her relentless trust in Him, no matter the circumstances.
Born to Rollin and Florence Pope on November 11, 1928 in Mitchell, South Dakota, and blessed with an adoring twin brother, Burton, the last two of six children. “The Twins’ always remained close. In 1940 the family left South Dakota and headed west, eventually settling in Dallas, Oregon where the family business of Pope Dairy began.
In 1947, Beryl graduated from Dallas High School, where she enjoyed being the Song Leader for the choir. After graduation she worked as a bank teller. One of the fondest memories was when her twin brother Burton, who was a pilot, would fly her to shop in Portland.
Beryl met the love of her life Charles William Mary at Christian Alliance Church. They were married September 2, 1949. Over the years, they welcomed eight children: Roger, Craig, Doug, Annette, Leslie, Todd, Scott and Mark.
After their time in Oregon, in 1961 the family moved to Boise, Idaho, where Charles accepted an executive position with the Mountain View Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Beryl was a devoted mother and homemaker raising their eight children with love and joy, attending and cheering on all activities including sporting events, choir and band concerts. She supported her children in any and all activities. She continued the same passion with her grandchildren, showing them the love of the Lord and how very special they were to her. She is adored by all of her 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
The family were active members of the First Baptist Church (now True Hope), where Beryl was a Bible Study Fellowship Leader and also a Bethel Series Leader. She and Charles connected with the Friendship Sunday School Class and so enjoyed their Bible studies and social times including when she was playing on the ladies’ softball team. She loved worshiping and serving with her church community for over 60 years. Her volunteer work also included Election Worker at Polling Precincts and Central District Health.
Following early retirement Charles and Beryl enjoyed backpacking through the White Clouds Sawtooth area, cross country skiing, a trip to Hawaii, bicycling together and the tour of the country in their VW Westfalia. We all have fond memories of the many Family Camping Vacations to Red Fish Lake and Family Reunions at the Oregon Coast.
Their next adventure together was opening their small business, Boise Books and Search, where they sold collectable books and built beloved friendships with their loyal customers. After the passing of her precious Charles in 1997, Beryl continued the business for several years.
In her later years, she was incredibly blessed with precious time with all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Grandma Beryl has given them all such fun and limitless memories.
