BETTY MAE BIRKINBINE
GENTHER
1925 – 2013
On a lovely fall day, Friday,
October 25
th
, 2013, Betty Mae Genther, age 87, passed peacefully
into the loving arms of her savior and loved ones that had gone before her.
The fourth of seven children, Betty
was born on December 1
st
, 1925 to George and Katherine Murphy
Birkinbine at Billings, Montana. She
spent her school years in Idaho Falls, ID.
At the age of 16, she met her sweetheart, Ed, at the roller rink, the
local teenage hangout. On May 1
st
,
1945, Ed and Betty were married in Vallejo, CA while Ed was serving in the Navy
during World War II. Ed and Betty lived
in Portland, OR, Jerome, Nampa and Idaho Falls, ID before settling in Boise in 1953. They enjoyed a wonderful 55-year marriage
before Ed’s passing in 2001.
For the majority of her life, Betty
concentrated on raising their five children, maintaining their home, and serving
as secretary and bookkeeper for Ed’s business, Genther Masonry. From 1979 to 1991 Betty also worked at Boise
Samaritan Village managing laundry and housekeeping.
Betty enjoyed reading her bible,
romance novels and magazines. In their
younger years, Ed and Betty could always be found “cutting a rug” on Friday
nights with family and friends. Betty
also enjoyed playing her guitar and singing with her family.
Betty will be missed by her
children, Diana (Jack) Keefer, Pamela (Ken) Nill, Theresa (Eric) Overgaard, Edwin
(Rhonda) Genther, and Angela (Jerry Gallegos) Marti. Thirteen grandchildren and 13
great-grandchildren will also miss her dearly.
Her brother, Ernie Birkinbine and numerous extended family members also
survive her.
The family
wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the wonderful caregivers who
spent countless hours with Betty providing tender, loving care during her last
months. She loved you all.
Funeral services will be held at
10:30 a.m., Friday, November 1
st
, 2013 at Alden-Waggoner Funeral
Chapel. Interment will follow at Dry
Creek Cemetery. A viewing will be held at
the funeral home on Thursday, October 31
st
from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Betty was a
breast cancer survivor, so a memorial donation to The American Cancer Society
for breast cancer research would be a very fitting tribute. Donations may be made online at
