Burton Currie Millar was born on December 29, 1922 to Mabel (Paton) Millar and James Millar on a farm west of Neche, ND.  He attended grade school at Hyde Park rural school and one year of high school in Neche, ND.  He  obtained his GED after he had settled in Boise.  At a young age he demonstrated his creative mind and wood working skills by constructing toys out of peach crates.  His love of woodworking and the talent he possessed was evident throughout his life.

In February of 1941 he chose to enlist in US Marine Corp.  After basic training in San Diego, CA, he was assigned guard duty at the Puget Sound Navy Yard, Bremerton, WA.  In April of 1942, he was promoted to Corporal.  In January of 1943, after receiving advanced weapons training, he was promoted to Sergeant and transferred to New Zealand.  He served in combat on Bougainville, Guam, and Iwojima.  On January 26, 1945, Burton was seriously wounded in combat on Iwojima.  On October 12, 1945, he was Honorable Discharged and ended his military service at the rank of PLT SGT.

Burt relocated to Boise, ID and began a lengthy career in the service department of Sears.  On November 7, 1947, Burt and Shirley Vestal were married.  Burt and Shirley spent their life together living in the house Burt built at 1014 Ridenbaugh St.  They enjoyed dancing and traveling together.  Burt also enjoyed woodworking, yard work, gardening, and playing cards.  Burt was a member of the American Legion and a very active member of the Elks Lodge #310 for 55 years.

Sadly, Shirley past away on July 16, 1990 and Burt continued on alone.

In November of 2010, Burt moved into Willow Park; an assisted living community in Boise.

Burt is survived by his older brother Walter (Eileen) Millar, Cavalier, ND.  Nephews: Glen Millar, Walhalla, ND, Allen Millar, Topeka, KS, and Wayne (Dianne) Millar, Wahpeton, ND.  Niece: Carol Millar, White Bear Township, MN.  First cousins: Alison (Millar) Olson, Gimli, Manitoba.  Iva Mae (Paton) Clisby, Long Beach, CA.  Special friend: Ms. Betty Floyd, Boise.
