Calista Kimball
(Buffalin) Pitts passed away February 15, 2013, at home in Boise, Idaho.
She was the daughter
of Howard and Angeline Kimball of Elmira, NY, where she grew up. She is the widow of James Arthur Buffalin and
mother of Ann Kimball Peckham and James Keller Buffalin. She met and married Robert Alan Pitts in
Elmira, then moved to Boston, Mass. where Bob finished his Doctorate from
Harvard. From there the family of four
moved to State College, PA, where they enjoyed 16 years and where son, Robert
K. (“Rob”) Pitts was born. The family
then lived for a short time in Lausanne, Switzerland and Boise, ID, before
spending several years in Gettysburg, PA.
After Robert’s retirement, the family returned to Boise where they have
resided until the time of her death.
Calista was a
graduate of Penn Hall Preparatory School for Girls. She later attended Elmira College and
graduated from Pine Manor where she received a degree in Early Childhood
Education. Calista was a teacher and a
child specialist for a family support center and for Head Start. She served on many boards and committees,
including Elmira Junior League, but her favorite “job” was buying and selling
antiques in Gettysberg, PA where she and Bob made their home for 15 years
before moving to Boise, Idaho.
Calista had many
interests including antiques and gardening.
She was a member of the Osher Institute, Boise Philharmonic, Boise Art
Museum, Junior League, and the Idaho Botanical Garden. She took a special interest in her family and
friends and “5:00 p.m.”.
Survivors include
her husband, Dr. Robert A. Pitts, Boise; daughter, Ann Lee Kimball Peckham
(David), Boise, ID but currently residing and working in Tunis, Tunisia; son, James K. (Angie) Buffalin, Boise, ID and
Robert K. Pitts of Washington, DC; granddaughter, Natalie, grandson, Joseph and
granddaughter, Allison Morgan, all of Boise;
and a brother, Howard Kimball, Elmira, NY. She was preceded in death by her first
husband, James Arthur Buffalin who was tragically killed in a car accident and
a sister, Patricia Harris of Watkins Glen, NY.
Memorials are
suggested to the Nature Conservancy or to the Idaho Humane Society.
