Charles Edward Brain passed away Sept. 2
nd
, 2011,
just three days before his 84
th
birthday. He was born to Charles R.
and Nellie (Dolan) Brain at Sedgwick, Colorado, Sept 5
th
, 1927.
After several moves they finally settled in Boise where Chuck attended middle
school and graduated from Boise High School. He was inducted in to the Army Air
Corps at Fort Douglas Utah. He then served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater until
June 9
th
, 1947.
While on leave he met his future wife Pauline Milstead, and
upon his discharge they were married June 21
st
, 1947. They then
bought a corner lot at 41
st
and Adams Street. Once the weeds were
cleared the remnants of garden rows could be seen. These were the rows of the
old Chinese gardens that gave Garden City its name. Chuck was an accomplished
carpenter and here he built his own home and woodworking shop. Over the years
he built many fine boats.
He worked at Morning Fresh Bakery from those early days
until they sold out to Town and Country Bakery in the early 60’s. He then
worked at Fuller Paint and Gloss, then at Garrett Freight Lines where he
suffered several career ending strokes at the age of 52. The strokes also ended
his days as an avid fisherman, who loved to camp out and travel the back roads
in the great mountains of Idaho looking for the next fishing stream or river.
He also loved to garden both veggies and flowers, and did so up until these
last few months, ever the independent hard working man.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Charles
and Nellie, his wife, Pauline, and an infant daughter, Louise.
He leaves behind his oldest son, Raymond and Sherry (Cole)
and their 5 children, 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; a son, Robert
and Debbie (Coon), and their 3 children, and 6 grandchildren; a daughter Connie,
and her son J.C.; and a son, Ricky and Tami, and Ricky’s three children, and 1
grandchild; and a niece Cindy, who reminded that her Uncle Chuck made the best
homemade Root beer.
Goodbye Dad---We love you.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 8
