Christeenia Grace Prescott (Grace)
Grace Prescott 81, of Boise, passed away the
afternoon of December 9
th
, 2011 at St. Luke’s hospital, Meridian,
ID, with loving family at her side.
Grace was born March 25
th
, 1930 in
Topeka, Kansas to George and Sadie William. She was raised on a farm with her
parents and 12 siblings. She was educated in St. George Kansas.
Grace married Robert Haas in 1949 and moved to
Pocatello, ID where her husband’s family lived.. While living in Pocatello, she
had two daughters Christeenia and Sherrie.
She later moved to Payette ID with her husband and his family where she
had two sons Robert and Hyrum. Grace and Robert later divorced.
While working as a waitress in Payette, she met and
married Donald Elmquist who had two children, a son David and a daughter Donna.
She had two children with Donald, a son Augustus “Gus” and a daughter Muriel.
Donald and Grace moved the family to Garden Valley, ID and ran a mining and
logging business. Donald died in a logging accident in 1963. Grace drove the
logging truck to keep the business going for a few months, but found it
difficult to continue the business during the winter with six children to care
for.
Grace moved her family to Eagle, ID where she later
met and married Samuel Franklin, They were later divorced. During this time she
worked for Birds Eye Frozen Foods in Nampa, ID. She was there for many years as
a quality control officer, until the plant closed. Grace then went to work for
Fresca Mexican Foods, where she worked until 1980.
On April 7, 1980, she married James Prescott, who had
a daughter Sandra Matthews. Grace helped operate the Lazy J Bar and worked as a
seasonal receptionist at H&R Block for twenty years. She then joined the
American Legion Auxiliary, where she has been very active for thirteen years.
Grace was the President of the American Legion
Auxiliary Eagle Unit, and the VAVS (Veterans Administration Volunteer Services)
chairman for the American Legion Auxiliary
Department of Idaho. She
volunteered many hours at the Veteran’s Hospital serving meals, organizing
functions, and visiting with the veterans. This was the highlight of her
life.
Grace is
survived by her husband, James Prescott; daughter Christeenia “Chris” her husband
Donald Stuart (grandchildren Teresa her husband Howard Harshman with two
great-grandchildren, and Dawn her husband Keith Crockett with four
great-grandchildren); daughter Sherrie her husband Jerry Cook (grandchildren
Tammy Satterfield with five great-grandchildren, Tanya Miller with three
great-grandchildren, and Terri Giddeon with three great-grandchildren); son
Robert Haas (grandson Kirk Haas); son Hyrum Haas his wife Donna (grandson Brian
Haas with two great-grandchildren); son Augustus “Gus” Elmquist his wife Sheryl
(grandchildren James “Jimmy” Elmquist and Heather Elmquist); daughter Muriel
Elmquist; step son David Elmquist his wife Mari (grandchildren Donald Elmquist,
Douglas Elmquist his wife Jenni with two great-grandchildren, and Christopher Elmquist);
stepdaughters Donna Elmquist and Sandra Matthews (grandchildren Gerry Kassianos
his wife Jessica with one great-grandchild and Michelle Matthews): two
brothers, Warren William and wife Dorothy, Roger William and wife Donna; five
sisters, Pauline her husband Chester Dinger, Lena Harms, Betty Mallon, Rose
Mathieu, Lois her husband Larry Gerry; and multiple nieces and nephews.
Grace was preceded in death by her mother and
father, brothers Edgar, Francis, Raymond, Gerald, Willard.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March
25
th
2012 from 2-4 pm at the Meridian American Legion Hall 22 W
Broadway Meridian, ID.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Case and the
staff at St. Luke’s Meridian for all their compassion in our time of need. Our
thanks go out to all our friends for their comfort and prayers.
