Conrad
Maurice Hoch, 96, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 15, 2012,
surrounded by family.
Born
in Dakota County, Nebraska, January 10, 1916 to farm folks George Raymond and
Mary Jane (Heikes) Hoch. The family moved in 1920 to a ranch in Boyd County
near the small town of Butte, Nebraska. He graduated from high school there
during the drought and depression in 1932. After working at seasonal jobs on
farms and ranches, he came in 1939 to Idaho to work for the Forest Service. Shortly
after Pearl Harbor, Conrad and his brother Bryce, enlisted in the U.S. Navy,
serving throughout WWII. Brothers, Leland and Harry later also enlisted in the
Navy. All were glad to return home after Japan surrendered and to receive
honorable discharges. Conrad then was employed for many years by the Forest
Service in Idaho, more years by cattle ranchers and more years in the Boise
Payette Saw Mill in Emmett. In 1958, he came to the Boise area to begin work in
home-building and other construction with various contractors that lasted into
the 1980’s.
In
May of 1962, Conrad and Glenna Jean Brown were married and began life together
in the Meridian area where son Lance was born in June of the following year and
son Andrew, a new year baby in 1967.
Conrad
retired from wage-earning in 1979. In 1981 moving to Cascade furnished the
opportunity to catch up with fishing and shoveling snow, then in 1984 back
again to the banana-belt and the beloved sage-brush ridge.
He
was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Leland, Bryce, Ronald, and
Harry.
He
is survived by his wife, Glenna; his sons, Lance (Dawnette) Hoch, and Andrew
(Lara) Hoch; a sister, Verna Maxine (Hoch) Hayes; step-children, Mike (Cathy)
Hatch, ReJeana (Randy) Blackburn, and Pam (Brad) Allred; and multiple
grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who loved him very much.
A
graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2012, at 1 p.m., at
Dry Creek Cemetery, Boise. Arrangements are under the direction of
Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise.
