Dale Conrad Edstrom
June 24, 1945 - November 30, 2022
Dale Conrad Edstrom passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 77.
Dale was born to Pele and Leone Edstrom, in Denver, Colorado on June 24, 1945. He was the second of three sons. In his early childhood, his family moved to Bloomington, Illinois and returned to Englewood, CO, several years later. Dale attended Englewood High School. He played linebacker and was team captain his senior year for the Pirates football team. He received his B.S. in Forestry from Colorado State University in 1967. As an outdoorsman, this was a perfect fit. A year later, he married Sue Ann Fleming. Following graduation, he worked for the Forestry Department of South Dakota at Custer State Park. He then served in the US Army for 2 years, stationed in Seoul, Korea. In 1970, after his military service, Dale and Sue moved to Rapid City, SD. Both Erica and Andy were born there. The family moved to Sandpoint, Idaho in 1976, where Dale continued his employment as a forester with the Idaho Department of Lands. He enjoyed meeting with landowners and discussing management plans for their properties. In 1978, the family moved to Boise, Idaho, where Dale continued his work with forest management. In 1983, he changed careers, working as a statistician with the Idaho Department of Labor, until he retired in July 2006. Since retirement, Dale enjoyed traveling with Sue to Ecuador, Chili, and Paraguay on mission trips with The Vineyard. Both Dale and Sue have been active in the Emmaus and Vineyard communities.
Some of Dale’s lifelong passions were hiking and spending time outdoors. He trekked several of Colorado’s top peaks, Mount Saint Helens, and Norwegian trails with his grandchildren. He loved hiking so much, he chose to give Sue hiking boots as a wedding present.
Dale was a dog-lover who had a furry companion most of his life. Dog’s were some of his best friends. Boots, Boo, Sheba, BJ, Ranger, and Kevin all knew the kindness and adoration of Dale, which included lots of dog treats, table scraps and walks.
Music touched Dale’s soul, as well as movies that told the stories of underdogs. One of his delights was spending time with his grandchildren. And he looked forward to their next visit from Norway.
Dale is survived by his wife Sue, his brother Carl Edstrom, his brother Paul Edstrom, his daughter Erica Edstrom, his son Andy Edstrom and partner Matt Mayer, and his grandchildren Ella, Josiah and Eden Haugli.
A memorial service will be held Friday, December 16th, at 1:00 pm at The Vineyard Boise Fellowship.
Enlieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be given to Hillsdale College and The Vineyard Boise or individuals may give to the charity of their choice.
