Darren Rick Downing passed away at his home in Castle Rock, Colorado on April 20, 2011.
Darren was born in Boise, Idaho on September 9, 1971 to Billy J. Downing and Karen L. (Fouts) Downing.
At a young age he moved to Colorado with his family and graduated from Loveland High School in Loveland, Colorado. He continued his college education at Dixie State College in Saint George, Utah with high honors and a Bachelors of Science Degree in Information Technology.
Darren also served 4 years in the U.S. Navy on the USS Theodore Roosevelt during the Bosnia crises and was honorably discharged in November 1996.
After college and the navy Darren was employed by the University of Idaho College of Education, Boise as a Technical Support Professional. In 2007 he moved back to Colorado and was employed at the General Office of Sports Authority in Englewood, Colorado as a Technical Support Professional until the time of his death.
Darren is survived by his father and mother of Meridian, Idaho; three half brothers, Doug (Kelli), Steve, and Mitch (Brandi) Downing; nieces ,Hannah and Michaela Downing; and nephews, Luke and Benjamin Downing all of Meridian and Boise; plus aunts and uncles in Idaho, Missouri and Florida.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents and two uncles.
Committal services with military honors will be held at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery under the direction of Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 for family and close friends only. Pastor Gary Jones will officiate
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Darren’s name to Children’s Miracle Network, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, American Cancer Society or the Idaho Youth Ranch.
