David Arthur Carroll

David was born on February 20, 1926 to Arthur Ray “Mike” Carroll and Martha Rueben in Boise, Idaho. He spent his early years in the Treasure Valley and Owyhee County, Idaho. Following the death of David’s mother Mike married June Brooks and together they raised their son. A baby sister, Eileen,  was born to as they both put it to torment David.


David graduated from Franklin High School in Boise where he met Virginia Lee Smith. They were married following David’s return from the service. David enlisted in the Army Air Force after graduation and trained in Texas, New Mexico and Colorado. After World War II ended David returned to Boise where he attended Boise Junior College majoring in Engineering. He and Virginia were married on August 30, 1948. They then moved to Corvallis, Oregon where he attended Oregon State University graduating with a major in Education. David began his teaching career in John Day, Oregon teaching high school math and science. In 1953 David and Virginia returned to Boise where David began a 35-year career with the Boise Independent School District. During this time, he not only taught students but also was Principal at Pierce Park, Koelsch, Franklin and Madison elementary schools. David then went into school administration as an Elementary School Supervisor and later as the district Curriculum Coordinator for the District. David retired from the school district in 1985. During his time with the Boise School district David also attained specialized degree in education from both San Jose State University and the University Nevada at Reno. David retired from the Air Force Reserves in 1987 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Virginia passed away in 1986.

Over the next 35 years David did some travelling—including a once in a lifetime trip. He and his sister spent an extended vacation in Ireland, Scotland, England and France—enjoying these parts of the world. This was a trip he talked about the rest of his life.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Mike and June, his wife Virginia and his sister Eileen. They are all back together now.

David is survived by his son Kirk Carroll and Kirk’s wife Sherri. Two grandchildren Ryan and Erin as well as two great grandchildren Ethan and Emily Carroll.

David wanted to thank many people and families that had been influential and supportive throughout his life. The Ruben family, the Brooks family, the Foster family, the Moss family and the Bancroft family. David wanted to note a special thanks to his foster grandmother Ida A. Brooks who he called the most important person in his life. A special thanks from David’s family to his childhood best friend and true friend of the family, Steve Bancroft, David’s closest friend for 87 years.
