On March 20, 2011, David B. Hiatt, age 64, of Boise, Idaho, passed away at home surrounded by his family.
Dave was born on April 9, 1946 in Twin Falls, Idaho, the son of “Chic and “Kay” Hiatt. He graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1964 and from the College of Idaho in 1969 where he double majored in marine biology and business. After graduation, he happily married his college sweetheart, Janet K. Flavel on August 23, 1969. In January 1970, Dave enlisted with the U.S. Army. He attended Officer’s Candidate School at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, and subsequently served with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers at Fort Campbell, Kentucky until October 1972. Dave was employed in the banking business for 20 years before becoming a public servant for the State of Idaho, working at both the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation and at the Idaho Department of Building and Safety.
Dave’s favorite pastimes were playing the French horn with the Treasure Valley Concert Band, listening to classical music, engaging in amateur astronomy, reading voraciously, and gardening. He especially loved being at home with his family.
Dave is survived by his wife of 41 years, Janet K. Hiatt, his daughter, Shelly Lynn Sementi, (married to Joshua) his grand-daughter, Geneva Sementi, his sister, Nancy L. Groves, (married to Lane), and nephew, Mark Groves.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Charles D. and Geneva A. Hiatt.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to all the doctors, nurses, and staff at the St. Alphonsus Cancer Care Center who cared for Dave during his illness. They also extend their appreciation to the staff at Idaho Department of Building and Safety for being so compassionate.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church, 950 West State Street, Boise, Idaho 83702. Memorial arrangements are under the direction of Alden Waggoner Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Nalen Fund – Patient Financial Assistance for Essential Living Expenses – through the Saint Alphonsus Foundation located at 1055 N Curtis Rd, Boise, Id. 83706.
