Our Dad, Pop,
Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Great Great Grandfather, Uncle and dear friend
left his earthly home for his Heavenly home on January 28, 2014. His journey
here on earth began on August 29, 1912 at
Bachtown
,
Illinois
. He was the son of James
and Lillian Eddington and the brother to
Marion
,
Georgia
,
Pearl
and Bonnie Eddington.
He married
his sweetheart, June McKown, on March 11, 1933.
They were married for 72 years when she passed away in 2005.
What a
fantastic life he lived! He often shared stories and memories of his childhood
days with all of us. He told those stories
with a twinkle in his eye and we lived those adventures through him.
Dad had many
job opportunities from paper carrier, shoe cobbler, postmaster, shipyard
welder, coffee salesman, home builder, rancher, real estate agent, to
entrepreneur and business owner.
After
retiring, Dad and his sweetheart June traveled through the
United States
, Europe, and parts of
Mexico
. They loved to travel and see the world
together. When they weren’t traveling
Dad enjoyed writing poetry, gardening, growing and making beautiful flower
arrangements for their church, bee keeping and sharing the bounty with their
neighbors and friends.
A quote from
Will Rogers fits Dad to a T. He “never
met a man he didn’t like”.. He was a man of integrity, an example of a true
Christian man and a mentor to many people.
His most
cherished thing was his family. He looked forward to all of us gathering for
his birthday celebration each year. What
fun we had telling stories, laughing together and having our famous taco night
feast.
He leaves
behind his son, Jerry and his daughter Judy (Steve) Wade, 9 grandchildren, 15
great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren plus his loving nieces and
nephews and his many dear friends.
We would like
to offer a special thank you to his caregivers: Nancy, Betsy, Dana, Jo Anne,
Terri and Debbie. They gave him so much
joy and took such special care of him during these past few years.
We are sad
here but we know that Dad is finally with his sweetheart June, his beloved
Mother, and the rest of his family and friends.
He longed to be with them again.
You continue
to live within each one of us Pop! Thank you for being our patient teacher. We
love you dearly.
A celebration
of his life will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Alden
