David R Murray

Dave Murray died on Sunday, October 13th. He was born in Boise, ID on November 29, 1938 to Roy and Florence Murray and grew up in Emmett, ID raised as a cradle Episcopalian.

He graduated from Emmett High School in 1957 where he was student body president and director of the pep band playing the cornet. He attended the University of Arizona and obtained a business degree in 1961, while serving as the president of Alpha Tau Omega his senior year. (oh, the stories) This is where he gained his networking skills.

The United States Navy identified Dave for Officer Candidate School soon after college. A knee injury separated him from the service, but he remembered that time fondly.

Dave was married to Marie Wagner and their daughter, Heather, was born in 1970. They later divorced. In 1983, Dave married Kerrie Quinn.

His professional life was spent in the financial industries field. He worked for Idaho First National Bank and Prudential Bache Securities. He went on to own and operate State Mortgage and later, became an independent municipal bond dealer.

Dave’s personal life could be characterized much like the three-legged stool. He was passionate about family and friends, embraced the motto of Service Above Self and was philanthropic in his endeavors.

Dave loved his friends, his business customers and especially his family, Kerrie, Heather and Brian and his grandson Callan, who is now learning how to play ‘Poppa’s’ cornet. Dave loved to travel and made friends everywhere he went. He represented Idaho well. He and Kerrie traveled to Ireland, Scotland, New Zealand and Italy walking extensively on those trips. It’s little wonder that years later, Dave had to have four separate back fusion surgeries.

His favorite place was McCall where he enjoyed the mountains and that lake view. There were trips through much of the United States including Civil War country, as well as that less famous site, Gatorland, in Florida. Wine with family and friends was a favorite activity. He and Kerrie took several wine tasting trips to Walla Walla and the Napa Valley.

He thrived on volunteer work and was committed to organizations whose mission was important to him. Dave served on The Idaho Youth Ranch Board of Directors for 42 years including as chairman of the board. He was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Boise Southwest and served as its president. Dave was involved in Masonry his entire life serving in DeMolay, El Korah Shrine and the Scottish Rite, where he was coronated Inspector General Honorary 33° in 1985.

Volunteering for ESGR, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, Dave supported the National Guard and encouraged employers to spend a day learning about the work of the guard and reserves. He also was a precinct chairman for the Republican Party for a number of years.

You could regularly find him viewing plays at The Idaho and Oregon Shakespeare Festivals and Boise Contemporary Theater, attending Ballet Idaho performances and sipping wine at the Ste. Chappelle Music Series. He thoroughly believed in and supported the local and regional arts.

Surviving him is Dave’s wife, Kerrie, daughter, Heather and her husband, Brian Price and grandson Callan Price and a sister, Linda and husband Joe Woodford of Colorado Springs, CO and their three sons. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Roy and Florence Murray.
