Dawn Elizabeth Kent was born on January 30, 1928 in Omaha, Nebraska, to Frank R. Pendleton and Rose C. (Lehr) Pendleton. She was raised in Omaha, Nebraska and graduated from Benson High School in 1945; attended Nebraska Methodist Nursing School and Creighton University. In 1949 she met Melvin Kent. They were married on May 21, 1950 in Omaha, NE, and moved to Fremont, NE. Mel and Dawn were married for over 50 years. Dawn worked for Mercantile Credit in Fremont. Mel and Dawn moved back to Omaha where she worked as a dental assistant for several dentists over her career. After earning her certification as a Respiratory Therapist, she worked many years at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha.
Dawn was active in several Masonic affiliated organizations. A 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Dawn was Worthy Matron several times, both in Liberty Chapter in Omaha and Ada Chapter in Boise, Idaho. She was a founding member of the EMRAL Club in Fremont, Nebraska and served as their first president. Dawn was also active in the Daughters of the Nile and Social Order of the Beauceant both in Omaha and Boise.
She and Mel moved to Boise in 1990. Her Christian faith and family were very important to her. She was a very devoted mother and grandmother and really enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Dawn worked as an office volunteer at First Baptist Church in Boise. Her hobbies included sewing, baking and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Melvin M. Kent and a daughter Linnaie Kent Olson.
Dawn is survived by her daughter Elise “Pixie” Bosch and son-in-law Allan Bosch, of Boise; grandchildren, Rylee Dawn Bosch of Boise, Peter Kent Bosch of Meridian, Mr and Mrs. Brandon Bosch (Laura) of Meridian; great-grandchildren, Avery Quinn Bosch, Ellie Reagan Bosch and Everett Judah “Rhett” Bosch all of Meridian; and son-in-law, Harold S. Olson Jr. of Channahon, Illinois; and grandson, Harold S. Olson III “Trey” of Channahon, Illinois.
Dawn passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022 in a local care facility. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 20, 2023, at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise. Her cremated remains will be inurned next to her husband Melvin, in Omaha Nebraska.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, Idaho Youth Ranch and Birthright of Boise.
