Delores
B. Sparks (Dee), 85, of Meridian, Idaho, died Monday, February 3, 2014 at home
of natural causes. She was surrounded by her family.
Funeral
services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the
Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery. The
family will greet friends at the funeral home on Friday, February 7th from 4:00
until 7:00 p.m.
Delores
was born on May 14, 1928 in Portland, Oregon, the daughter of LeMar and
Beatrice Stanley Allred. On December 31, 1965, Delores married Herbert L.
Sparks. He preceded her in death in 1986.
In
Delores' early working years she was a switchboard operator at Elmendorf Air
Force Base, Alaska. She worked as a waitress and was also a longtime
cashier at Grant's Truck Stop. Delores had many hobbies including doing
jigsaw puzzles, reading, fishing, camping, ceramics and crocheting. She
especially enjoyed making crocheted dolls. She was an avid fan of BSU
football and watched all the games while wearing the game colors. Delores
very much enjoyed being with her family and attending family picnics and
reunions.
Survivors
include her four children and their spouses, Carol (Ronald) McCormick, Grants
Pass, OR, LeMar (Linda) Dodge, Boring, OR, Penny (Don Cook) Dodge, Meridian,
ID, and Suzanne (Steven) Boyd, Boise, ID; seven grandchildren;
eleven great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren. She
also is survived by three sisters, Dorothy Vega, Hillsboro, OR, Donna Barbour,
Mountain Home, ID, and Patricia Johnson, Idaho City, ID and one brother, Robert
Allred, Hanford, CA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In
addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons,
Gary Wayne Dodge and Andrew Jay Hansen (Jay), her step-mother, Agnes Allred and
a sister, Dennis Collier.
Delores
was totally devoted to her family and was happiest when surrounded by her loved
ones. She had a strong inner strength that carried her through many
hardships. She did not let injuries or illness dictate her life.
Her positive spirit permeated everything she did. Her family enjoyed her
sense of humor and quick wit. She will be greatly missed.
The
family would like to express their heartfelt thanks for the wonderful
care provided by the nurses and staff of St. Luke's Hospice and Chaplain
John Martin. Their compassion and care helped their mother and family.
