Diane L. Terwilleger, 85, of Boise, died Saturday, February 27, 2016 at a Boise care facility. Diane was born April 21, 1930 in Boise, an only child born to Vern C. Larson and Hazel M. Larson. She attended Boise High School and Boise State University, obtaining her B.A. in education and her masters in special education.
She operated her own kindergarten, Humpty Dumpty Kindergarten, worked for Idaho Hunger Action Counsel, Bishop Kelly High School as a cook, The ARC as a special education teacher, and later operated Under the Umbrella, a child care food service program.
She married the love of her life Guy Terwilleger on June 7, 1950 in Boise. They had three daughters, Tiane (Tina) Bess of NV, and Michele Hadley and Lisa Terwilleger, both of Boise.
Diane had an infectious smile and was loved by everyone she met. No one was a stranger to her – she could spend an hour talking on the phone to a wrong number. She “adopted” daughters throughout the years, bringing them in like family.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Tina and Dan Bess; daughter and son-in-law Michele and Richard Hadley; daughter Lisa Terwilleger; grandson and granddaughter-in-law Joshua and Darla Bess; granddaughter Nicole Hadley; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends and adopted family members. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and her husband.
A memorial celebration of life will be held at the Terwilleger home Sunday March 20, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Cremation is under the direction of Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise.
The family would like to thank the staff of Avamere Transitional Care and Rehab for their love and care during the time Diane was there. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Alzheimer’s research, Southminster Presbyterian Church, or to First Choice Hospice.
