Donald David Harris 1930-2012 passed away on March 5, 2012 of heart failure. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 9, 2012, at 1:00 p.m., at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise, with viewing one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, Boise.

Born on August 25, 1930 in Scenic, South Dakota to Michiah Monroe Harris and Mary Elizabeth Swanzey Harris, he was one of fourteen children. He is survived by his wife of 31 years Ellen Harris of Boise.  Three brothers Jack Harris (Portland), Gordon Harris (Meridian), and Ted Harris (Queens Creek, AZ).  Three sisters Suzie Upshaw (Boise), Madeline Tuning (Nampa), and Rene`Del Chario (Grass Valley, California).   Seven children Kathy (Bryce), Cheryl (Randy), Don J. (Natalie), Jeannette (Ronnie), Trish (Don), Pam (Rich), and Kelly.  Two stepchildren Laura (James), Tina (Bryan).  Twenty one grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren, and his first wife Mary T. Ground (Boise).  Preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters, and a son James.

He was raised in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and graduated high school in Hill City, South Dakota. He was a hard hat diver in the Navy and a veteran in the Korean War.  Moved to Idaho in 1964 after finishing a tech printing school in Minneapolis, Minnesota and went to work for Syms-York Printing company for 20 plus years until he started his own business Harris Sharpening.  Retired in 2000 and spent time traveling and camping with family, until his Alzheimers required more care and was living in Spring Creek retirement center for the last three months.  We would like to send special thanks to all the staff at Spring Creek retirement center on Five Mile and McMillan.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the: Alzheimers Association P.O.
