Donald George
Isberg , 86, of Meridian, Idaho, passed away peacefully August 29, 2014 at home
in the care of his family and companion, Millie, and her family.
Don was born
in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 1, 1928 to Helen Miller Isberg and Joseph Goering.
His mother remarried and Don was then raised and adopted by George Isberg.
Don was a
kind, gentle man, always willing to help a stranger. He took care of everyone
and his love of animals was a reflection of his character.
Collecting was
his passion; coins, beer steins and memorabilia of all the places he had
traveled. He also enjoyed fishing, when possible, with his daughter, Donna, and
Millie. Camping with friends and family, was another joy in Don's life.
Don was an
active man and interested in many things, such as, playing the organ and weekly
card games with close friends, to the end of his life.
The military
was a major part of Don's life! He served 25 years. First, in 1951 for two
years in LaRochelle, France. He then re-enlisted in 1960, serving two tours in
Germany, as well as two shorter tours in Korea and Virginia. He spent his last
years in the service in Orange County, California, ending his career in 1983 at
the Presidio in San Francisco of which he was very proud.
Don's
philosophy was reflected in his motto; “Stay active as long as you can! Don't
give up just because you hurt a little bit....just keep going. As long as you
can move, move.”
He was
thankful to his long-term hospice nurse, Eric, for keeping him going and making
his journey joyful.
Don was
extremely loving and proud of his seven children; Cynthia Isberg of Aptos CA,
Dale Isberg of Orange CA, Shelly Kayser of Garden Valley ID, Jennifer Palanci
