Donald W. Broadie passed away peacefully at home on January
17, 2022 from natural causes due to his lungs and heart being worn out after 92
years of living a great life. He was born in Picabo, Idaho on June 24,1929 to
George W. Broadie and Hazel Porter Broadie both from Oklahoma. He spent his
younger years in Idaho and some of his teenage years in California riding
racehorses as a jockey for Bing Crosby Stables. He married Edievernile Arnold
on December 19, 1951. He was in the Marines during the Korean War. He worked as
a butcher in Boise, and at Stibnite Mine out of Yellow Pine. He operated a
small farm in Boise raising milk cows, pigs, and chickens where he raised his
family. He sold that property to the developers of Boise Towne Square Mall
after his children were grown. He worked at the Veterans Hospital in
Administration starting out as a bicycle mailman and retiring as Chief of
Supply after many years in Boise, then transferring to Shreveport, LA, St.
Louis, MO, Las Vegas, NV, Grand Junction, CO, and Reno, NV where he retired and
then moved back to Boise. He also worked at three different gas stations in
Boise, managing one after his VA retirement, and at the Main Auction on
Saturdays. He leaves behind his son Douglas Broadie and daughter Deborah
Sunderland, his brother Wesley Broadie and sister-in-law Coral Broadie,
granddaughter Danielle Darragh and her husband Daniel Darragh, great grandsons
Connor and Ian Darragh, granddaughter Samantha Lemmon and her husband Stephan
Lemmon, great grandson Griffin Lemmon and many nephews and nieces. He was
preceded in death by his wife Edie, his son Larry King, his daughter Darla
Broadie, his parents George and Hazel, his siblings Arnie, Belva, Fred, James,
Ledora, Leon, Lincoln, Mildred, Viola. Also his brother-in-law and friend
Larry Gardiner. He really enjoyed fishing and taking drives with him and shared
many good times at Player's Club with Shelly McLain and Mack and Johnny and at
Merritts Cafe.
A viewing will be held Monday, January 31 at 10 AM at
Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise and a brief ceremony at the Veterans
Cemetery at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers please donate to a Veterans hospital or
association. We will be having a potluck at Dad's house afterward, please bring
a dish to share.
