to Herman and Luella (Esse)
Schoonover at McIntosh,
South Dakota
. He graduated from
Boise
High School
,
then joined the military in 1943, retiring from the Air Force as a Master
Sargent in 1966. After his military
career, he owned 2 gasoline service stations, retiring a second time.
He married Royal Brogden on
December 29, 1949
. From this union came 3 children: Douglas, Bonnie, and Curtis. They later divorced. In 1982, he met Joan Lynskey and they married
on
April 5, 1986
in
Reno
,
Nevada
.
He was a 50-year member of Boise Lodge #2, a member of the
Scottish Rite and York Rite bodies, the El Korah Shrine, Past Grand Royal
Patron of the Order of the Amaranth, Past Worthy Patron of Eastern Star, and a
member of the VFW.
Don is survived by his devoted wife Joan of 26 years, sons
Doug (JoAnn) and Curt (MaryAnn), sister Mary Lou (Jack), brother Richard, 3
grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, stepchildren Diane (Mike) Rogers and
Leona Lynskey, 7 step grand children, and 10 great step grand children. He was preceded in death by both parents,
brother Howard, daughter Bonnie, and sister in-law Bobbie Schoonover.
The Schoonover family would like to extend deep appreciation
to the staff and management at the Good Samaritan Society,
Boise
Village
for their kind hearted and caring assistance with Don’s care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the
Shriners Childrens Hospitals or to your favorite charity. Memorial service will be held at the
Alden-Waggoner funeral chapel in
Boise
on Wednesday, April 3 at
1 pm
. Reception to follow at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel.
