Donna Jean Lang

Donna Jean Lang died peacefully surrounded by family in her home on Tuesday December 27 after being given 16 months of happy days with her loved ones following her brain cancer diagnosis.  She was born January 17, 1960 in Watervliet, Michigan as the fourth child of Elsie (Sande) & Donald Albertsen, and lived in several Midwest states prior to moving to Boise, Idaho in 1972.

Throughout her childhood, she loved pretending to be a teacher.  Her dolls and paper dolls were highly educated and very well behaved.  She attended Gem State Academy in Caldwell, and Walla Walla College in Washington.  She married Bob Leake in 1980 and lived in New York State, Portland, Oregon and Bismarck North Dakota.  She had two sons, Benjamin James Leake in 1986 and Matthew John Leake in 1989, who were her pride and joy.

In 1995 Donna moved back to Boise and fell in love with Bob Lang, becoming his wife and mother to his children in 1996.  She loved Tyler Jakob Lang and Bethany Marie Lang as her own children.  She devoted her time and energies to being the best mother possible and a mentor to many children by volunteering and teaching at school, church, and giving to friends and family.

After her career as a mother was over, she returned to college at Boise State University determined to complete her Bachelor’s Degree before her oldest son completed his.  She succeeded by one year, graduating with a BA in Communication in May of 2008.  She went on to get her Master’s Degree in Communication from BSU in 2010 in order to be able to teach at the University level.  Donna finally achieved her childhood dream of becoming a teacher by teaching at both BSU and CWI. She is described by other professors as being a “natural born teacher” and loved engaging the students.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Lang of Caldwell; sons Ben (Emily) Leake of Bremerton, WA; Tyler Lang of Boise; PFC Matthew Leake currently stationed in Colorado Springs, CO; and daughter Bethany Lang currently attending Washington State University.  Also surviving are her mother, Elsie Prohaska of Boise; her brother, Ken (Ella Jean) Albertsen of Loveland, CO; and 3 sisters, Mary Jane (Henry) Zollbrecht of Oregon City, OR; Carol Ann (Jack) St. Clair of La Grande, OR; and Linda Gault of Eagle.  Donna has ten nieces and nephews and 14 niece-lettes and neph-lets who will miss her terribly, but will always carry her wonderful gift of love in their hearts.

The Donna Jean Lang Memorial Scholarship fund has been created within the Boise State University Foundation to assist students who wish to become teachers and perpetuate her dream.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at the Cloverdale Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1115 N. Cloverdale, Rd., Boise.  Graveside services will follow at Cloverdale Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel.
