Doris Joan
Chaney was born July 1, 1939 in Nampa, Idaho to Arthur & Eva Lena
McCoy.
She lived in Melba on Jensen’s
Ranch where her father was the ranch foreman. In 1947 she and her parents moved
to Corinth, Mississippi where her parents were raised. Being an only child she spent much of her
childhood with her many cousins and in 1957 graduated from Corinth High
School. Doris and her parents moved back
to Idaho that same year and she started attending the College of Idaho in the
fall of 1957. She graduated with her
Bachelor of Art’s degree in foreign language with a minor in English in
1961. She began teaching the fall of
1961 in Meridian, Idaho.
Then in 1963
she met Clinton Chaney in Boise, Idaho and on May 28, 1966 they were married in
Nampa, Idaho. They lived in Boise and Doris taught at Caldwell High School.
During the early years of their marriage they enjoyed camping and taking long
drives. They then began having their
children, Allen, Ben & Janna from 1970 – 1973. Doris stayed home to care for her children
until her youngest, Janna was in kindergarten at which time she started
teaching again in 1979 at Maranatha Christian School and did so for 16
years. She loved teaching and loved her
students even more. In fact, caring for
her children and students became her life’s ministry. Her love for the Lord was
lived out in front of her children and students every day and she was very
active in her church where she taught Sunday School for many years.
Mrs. Chaney
was a truly amazing woman of which words can’t begin to accurately convey. If you were fortunate enough to have known
her you know in your heart what Mrs. Chaney means to you. She inspired so many
people to achieve spiritually and academically far beyond their aspirations.
In November
of 2008 she retired from teaching at Nampa Christian due to early stages of
Alzheimer’s. On January 25
th
,
2012 she passed peacefully into her eternal home at Spring Creek Manor in
Meridian with her daughter at her side. The family would like to express their
extreme gratitude to the caregivers at Spring Creek Manor who loving tended to
all mom’s needs.
