Doris Baird, 80, from Boise, Id., was raised in
the Clearwater River country. She was fiercely proud of her pioneer Idaho
heritage, orphaned at the age of 11, she lived with family members in Orofino. At the age of 19, she married David Baird, a
returning US Navy veteran, in Orofino, ID. They moved to Boise and raised four
children Michael, Carol, Ronald and Richard. They were members of Good Shepard
Lutheran Church, Boise and Grace Bible Church of Boise.
Doris was a wife, mother, homemaker, Cub Scout den
mother, PTA president, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League President, and for
several years part of the Lutheran Camp Perkins summer staff in the Sawtooth
valley. In her 40s, she went to college
and became a licensed practical nurse. She
retired after 21
years at St Luke’s Hospital in Boise. She
was admired not only by her patients, but by all the staff regardless of title.
Many a doctor sought out Doris to give personal care to their patients.
Doris was a breast and colon cancer survivor
and gracefully endured the loss of their youngest son Richard.
She was
an excellent cook who would never use a mix. Holidays were always celebrated with
a large spread including homemade candies, rolls and pies. She loved her family and was an avid fan of
all her children and grandchildren’s activities. She loved camping in the
mountains especially the Sawtooths.
Doris
lived with Alzheimer’s for 12 years, and her family watched her disappear
slowly before their eyes. However, they
are left with many precious memories.
Doris
loved her Lord Jesus Christ and shared about Him with many she met. Her life was her husband, family, church and camping
trips.
Survivors
include: Spouse, David D. Baird; Children, Michael (Kathleen) Baird, Lostine,
Ore.; Carol (Garry) Newhall, Boise; Ron (Diana) Baird, Meridian; Daughter-in-law
Sharon Baird Boise. Grandchildren; Rial
and Patrick Baird; Caitlin Seitz; Cristin and Jennifer Newhall; Jamie Collins, Kelley Siebenaler; Scott Mione, Stephen, Becky and Christopher
Baird; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Doris
was preceded in death by her parents William Lewis Clark and Dorothy Fay Clark;
Brothers William and James Clark; and her son Richard S. Baird.
Viewing
will take place at Alden Waggoner Funeral Chapel from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15.
A graveside service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16 at Dry Creek
Cemetery in Eagle followed by a Celebration of Life memorial service at 2:30
p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16 at Grace Bible Church, 4262 N. Eagle Rd. Boise.
