Doris Vogelpohl was
born in June of 1920, in Appleton, Wisconsin to Amanda and Arthur Schroeder.
She passed away on
November 15, 2013, In her home at the Good Samaritan Nursing Facility. She was 93 years young.
She is survived by
her son, James A. Vogelpohl Sr. of Star Idaho, Grandsons, Barry Weber, Brett
Weber, Jim Vogelpohl Jr.,Travis Aeschbacher and Brad Aeschbacher.
Granddaughters, Michelle Weber, Dena Ashcraft, and Jenni Mercil. 18
great-Grandchildren and 1 great-great Grandchild.
Preceded in death
by her husband Gilbert Vogelpohl, daughter Sharon Rivera Vogelpohl and grandson
Brian Weber.
Doris met the love
of her life Gilbert Vogelpohl and in her words, “Corrupted a soon to be Pastor
Vogelpohl”. They were married on August
21
st
1944 in Richmond, Virginia. The war took Gilbert from her
temporarily. She occupied her time as a
Rosie the riveter, until Gilbert returned to her in November of 1945.
Doris and her
family resided in Saginaw, MI, Cleveland, OH, Milwaukee, WI, Lansing, MI and
finally Boise, ID.
She worked at the
Schlitz Brewing Co. in Milwaukee, WI and various laundry centers.
Doris was an avid
sports fan. She enjoyed Social gathers
after church, choir, playing cards, especially cribbage. Sewing, crochet, and knitting were among her
other hobbies.
Doris always
enjoyed visiting with her old friends and made new friends very easily. I do not think she every met a person who was
not comfortable in calling her, Grandma, because that would be how she would
introduce herself.
We will say our
farewell to Mom, Grandma, and friend, Wednesday the 20
th
at
2:00p.m., at 3360 Collister Dr. Pastor
Charles Spiedel will be officiating.
