The war took Gilbert from her temporarily.  She occupied her time as a Rosie the riveter, until Gilbert returned to her in November of 1945.

Doris was an avid sports fan.  She enjoyed Social gathers after church, choir, playing cards, especially cribbage.  Sewing, crochet, and knitting were among her other hobbies.
Doris always enjoyed visiting with her old friends and made new friends very easily.  I do not think she every met a person who was not comfortable in calling her, Grandma, because that would be how she would introduce herself.
