On June 24, 2012, Dorothy Mousetis,
our beloved mother and grandmother, with loving thoughts of her family
peacefully passed. Dorothy was born in Baltimore, Maryland. She was
the only child of Edmund and Maude Bopp.
Dorothy had a zest for life which
was very infectious and a presence that was strong and indomitable! She
could take on any task presented and turn it into a success. Her joyful,
plucky, and independent spirit was instrumental in our father falling deeply in
love with her; a union lasting for more than 67 years in which they were
blessed with five children.
Dorothy had a rich lifetime of
experiences beginning with being one of The Greatest Generation. During WWII
she helped serve her country on the Home Front by working in the munitions
factories. Following the war she and her husband settled in Akron, Ohio where
she worked tirelessly with young people. One highlight was she helped
organize music programs and teen dances with the famous Rock & Roll DJ,
Alan Freed.
In 1956, Dorothy and her family
moved to Boise,Idaho. Being an ardent city girl, her first impression of Boise
was somewhat dubious when she read the sign on Capital Boulevard
Keep the
Horses off the Sidewalk!
Needless to say she strongly suggested to
our father that he should probably turn the car around and head back East to
civilization. Fortunately, we stayed in Boise.
Once in Boise, Dorothy immersed
herself in work and civic activities. She started as a Juvenile Probation
Officer for the Ada County Probate Court, Eventually she became the Chief
Probation Officer for the Magistrate Division of the Fourth Judicial District
in Boise, and finally finished her career as the Administrator for the Ada
County Juvenile Center. Over the years, Dorothy served on various boards and
task forces focusing on the welfare of young people.
Dorothy’s civic activities were
equally numerous and legendary. She served in many capacities and held various
positions in P.T.A. from the local level at Adams School where she was honored
as their First Life Member to her extensive involvement at the State P.T.A.
Level. Her activities don’t end there. Dorothy was a Member of the
Soap Box Derby Board, taught college age classes at the First Methodist
Cathedral, was on the Chamber of Commerce Fairyland Parade Committee, the Board
of Tuesday Musical, and was Executive Director of The Miss Boise Pageant, just
to mention a few of her involvements. She and our father were both honored as
Distinguished Citizens in the Idaho Statesman.
Dorothy had a zealous enthusiasm for
the arts! She absolutely embraced the theater, music, and dance! She was
a Member of Boise Little Theater for more than 40 years where she served as
Secretary and President of BLT. Her other great passion was Boise Music Week!
She helped to establish many of BMW’s musical programs and the First Music Week
Parade. How she loved Musicals! Truth be told she had a wonderful voice
herself. She was a Member of the Board of Directors for Boise Music Week,
served as its President multiple times, and was given the honor as a life
member.
Dorothy was a Proud Democrat and an
Avid New York Yankees and Boise State Bronco Fan!!!
Dorothy loved her family
unconditionally. She never missed an opportunity to plan a fun outing or
family vacation. She was infinitely proud of each of her children,
grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She taught us the meaning of loyalty
and love for family and the importance of giving back to community. She
always said her greatest legacy was her family. Our mother was a most unique
person; no one had her sparkle or shine and we are not talking sequins. We love
you and miss you;
May Your Memory Be Eternal!
Dorothy was preceded in death by her
parents, Marilyn (daughter), Dick (son-in-law) and her loving soul mate and
husband, George. She is survived by her children, Sharon, George (Donna), Debra
(Jim), and Traci (Ben); grandchildren: Pamela (Gary), Ryan (Meg), Michael
(Donna), and Angela; great grandchildren: Kyle, Alexia, Titan, Bruin, Xenophon,
Elektra, Marissa, and Meridian.
A viewing and funeral services will
be held Tuesday, June 3, at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel. The viewing will be
at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral at 11:00 a.m. The committal service will be at 1:00
p.m. at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.
