Douglas (Doug) F. Sage passed away peacefully at home on his
51
st
wedding anniversary with his loving wife and daughter by his
side. He was just shy of his 73rd
birthday.
Doug was born in Salt Lake City, UT, the first child of Edward
Floyd Sage and Dolly Dorothy Mitchell.
He grew up in Cannon Beach, OR, where he rode horses, lifeguarded,
played basketball, and worked on cars at his Dad’s shop.
He met his wife, Joan Elizabeth (Mixon) Sage, at Linfield
College in McMinnville, OR. It was love
at first sight and they married in Boise, ID, on 3/17/1962. They had a daughter, Cathleen Marie Sage in
1964. She was their miracle baby: the
first daughter in 2 generations.
Doug joined the U.S. Army in 1962 and remained in the
service until 1965. He and Joan were
stationed in CA, Paris, France, and finally at Fort Rucker, AL. He remained proud of his veteran status until
he died.
Doug’s working years were spent as an Automotive Parts
Manager here in Boise and then up to Ketchikan, AK. He fended his career in Sheridan, WY, after
which he and Joan moved back to Boise .
An avid horseman from childhood, Doug was a member and
Captain of the Ada County Mounted Sheriff’s Posse and previously the posse in
Clatsop County, OR. He was also the Past
President of The Boise Back Country Horsemen.
He worked with his daughter’s 4-H clubs and taught her to ride. Doug played guitar and the family has many
memories of his strumming and singing around the campfire.
Doug bowled for many years and loved being on a league at 20

Century Lanes. He was also an avid
sports fan whose favorite football team was the Rams. He also watched NASCAR
races.
Doug is survived by his wife, Joan, his daughter, Cathi, and
grandchildren, Kyle and Shawn Tikala, Ellie, Kayte, and Andy Epperson. He leaves behind his brother, Larry Sage, and
his in laws, Loyce M. Frazier, Rick Mixon, and Charlotte M. Lanier. He was preceded in death by his parents, his
brother, Greg Sage, father-in-law, Randle R. Mixon, Sr., brother-in-law,
Charles Mixon, and nephew, Jack Barsness.
A Committal Ceremony will be held on Thursday March 21
st
at The Idaho State Veteran’s Cemetery. A
Memorial Service will be held at Alden Waggoner Funeral Chapel on Fri. March
22, 2013 at 2:00pm.

following behind, and the sun on his face, finally free.”
