Douglas Floyd Sage

Douglas (Doug) F. Sage passed away peacefully at home on his 51 st wedding anniversary with his loving wife and daughter by his side.  He was just shy of his 73rd birthday.

Doug was born in Salt Lake City, UT, the first child of Edward Floyd Sage and Dolly Dorothy Mitchell.  He grew up in Cannon Beach, OR, where he rode horses, lifeguarded, played basketball, and worked on cars at his Dad’s shop.

He met his wife, Joan Elizabeth (Mixon) Sage, at Linfield College in McMinnville, OR.  It was love at first sight and they married in Boise, ID, on 3/17/1962.  They had a daughter, Cathleen Marie Sage in 1964.  She was their miracle baby: the first daughter in 2 generations.

Doug joined the U.S. Army in 1962 and remained in the service until 1965.  He and Joan were stationed in CA, Paris, France, and finally at Fort Rucker, AL.  He remained proud of his veteran status until he died.

Doug’s working years were spent as an Automotive Parts Manager here in Boise and then up to Ketchikan, AK.  He fended his career in Sheridan, WY, after which he and Joan moved back to Boise .

An avid horseman from childhood, Doug was a member and Captain of the Ada County Mounted Sheriff’s Posse and previously the posse in Clatsop County, OR.  He was also the Past President of The Boise Back Country Horsemen.  He worked with his daughter’s 4-H clubs and taught her to ride.  Doug played guitar and the family has many memories of his strumming and singing around the campfire.

Doug bowled for many years and loved being on a league at 20 th Century Lanes.  He was also an avid sports fan whose favorite football team was the Rams. He also watched NASCAR races.

Doug is survived by his wife, Joan, his daughter, Cathi, and grandchildren, Kyle and Shawn Tikala, Ellie, Kayte, and Andy Epperson.  He leaves behind his brother, Larry Sage, and his in laws, Loyce M. Frazier, Rick Mixon, and Charlotte M. Lanier.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Greg Sage, father-in-law, Randle R. Mixon, Sr., brother-in-law, Charles Mixon, and nephew, Jack Barsness.
