Dr. Jerald V. Drost

Dr. Jerald Vernon Drost passed away peacefully on February 22, 2016, at St. Alphonsus Hospital, Boise, Idaho. He was born to Dr. Edward Bernard Drost, Sr. and Josephine Brown Drost on August 17, 1931, in North Platte, NE where he was raised and graduated from St Patrick’s High School in 1949. Jerald attended the University of NE at Kearney, Regis College in Denver, CO and went on to graduate from the Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery at Kirksville, MO in 1956 at which time he moved to Boise, Idaho to start his private practice.

He married the love of his life, Marguerite Errett, April 14, 1960.The two raised six girls and made sure they never went without. This very caring, loving and patient man was a pillar in his community.
His life was dedicated to others and he ensured his patients were well cared for. He was active in his church where he found solace. In addition to many other organizations, Jerald was an active member of The Knights of Columbus, an attending physician for The Golden Gloves and a member of the Idaho State Board of Medicine for many years.

Jerald spent Thursday afternoons in Idaho City treating patients in a small office above a local saloon; there was no local physician and many residents could not travel for treatment. Often he did not charge for these services, a testament to his generosity. Jerald ensured his patients did not go without necessary medication and was committed to healing the sick and ailing and preventing illness.

Jerald had a passion for so many activities. He loved all sports especially car racing, boxing and football. He spent time with his brothers fishing, shooting, hunting and enjoying everything about cars.

Jerald was very special to many people. We are truly blessed to have had him in our lives. There are no words to describe what a wonderful man, father, brother, husband and friend he was. He has left a legacy of which we are very proud.

Jerald retired after 47 years of medical practice. His health was the only reason for his retirement. He battled numerous ailments, defeating some but not all. Jerald’s life was one of true honor, love and goodness.

May God shine his light upon him and show him grace and comfort in the afterlife.

Jerald is survived by his wife, Marguerite, Boise; brothers, Larry (Linda Caballero Drost), Boise, Edward Bernard Jr. (Jackie), Boise; sister, Betty Gardner, North Platte, NE; daughters, Deb Weber (Mike), Boise, Linda Huffer (Jim), Meridian, Pam Rickett (Jack), Sutherland, NE, Deanna Drost, Meridian, Mary Denson (Duane), Troutdale, OR; and sister-in-law, Charlene Keylor Schott (Clint), Boise.
