Dr. Tyler H. Gill, 72, passed away peacefully on November 4,
2013 at his home in Meridian, Idaho from Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.
Tyler was born on February 24, 1941 in Anna, Illinois to
Eunice and Tyler Gill. After a childhood
of exploring the back woods of northern Minnesota and various other adventures,
Tyler enlisted in the army and served for three years. During this time he discovered his passion
for the medical field while working as an X-ray tech. After an honorable discharge, he continued his
education culminating in earning his medical degree from the University of
Minnesota. During his stint in medical
school he met his wife Kelly Hickman. They
were later married in October of 1970 and would be together for 43 years. Ty
practiced radiology for 35 years throughout the Northwest and Alaska. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, gardener,
certified diver, and enjoyed sports and other physical activities. He also enjoyed ornithology and was a great lover
of books. Tyler was always active in his
community. Over the years he was
involved in organizations such as Kiwanis and volunteered as a Reserve Deputy
Sheriff for Lincoln County, Montana.
Being active in his home church, he served as an elder and in various
other positions within the Lutheran church.
One of Ty's greatest attributes was his generosity. Every year families who found themselves
lacking provisions would receive an anonymous gift of food for their holiday
meal. If someone in his church or
community voiced a need, they found it met, again from an anonymous donor. At Christmastime, he selflessly requested
charitable donations in his name in place of physical gifts.
Tyler is survived by his wife, Kelly, and his two daughters
Jen (Ken) Hosier and Lindsay (Seamas) Whitesel; siblings Sally Kerr of Mesa, AZ, Eleanor Kelly
of Salem, OR and Charles Gill of Rosemont, MN; grandchildren Kaelyn and Evan Hosier and
Richard, Abigail and Caroline Whitesel; and numerous nieces, nephews,
great-nieces and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in
Tyler's memory to his favorite charities:
