Earl was born in
Colorado
Springs

CO
to Earl
A. Rose Sr. and Bertha Morgan Rose, the second of their five children. He spent his childhood in
Colorado
Springs
and moved to
Homedale
,
Idaho
in 1946. Earl attended
Boise
High School
while he lived at the YMCA. He played on
the varsity basketball team, but more important than basketball, he met Marilyn
York at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Earl attended Boise Junior College where he learned to
survey. After graduating from BJC in 1950, he joined the Naval Reserve. That
year he and Marilyn became engaged, and then the Korean War officially broke
out. Earl served on the USS Grady, a destroyer escort, and was stationed at
Pearl Harbor. He asked Marilyn to come
over to him to be married and they were married on June 15, 1951, on Oahu.
After moving back to Boise in 1952, Earl was offered a
position with Daly and Company, and worked his way up to Vice-President of that
company. In the mid 60’s Earl was approached to open an office for Foster and
Marshall in Boise. At that time he and
Gary Peterson became partners and friends.
Earl retired from Foster and Marshall in 1995.
Earl enjoyed golfing and traveling with Marilyn and they
spent their retirement years with friends and family while traveling around the
world. Their friends gathered on Maui
every year to hold the Earl Rose Memorial Golf Tournament which was a week long
golfing party. Earl and Marilyn celebrated their 60
th
wedding
anniversary with their family at Crane Creek Country Club.
Earl was very active in many community organizations. In 1959 the Jaycees voted him the Outstanding
Young Man of the Year. He was a charter
member of the Crane Creek Country Club, was a member of the Masons for 50
years, a 33 degree Scottish Rite and a member of the El Korah Shrine. He was also active with the Boise Executive
Association and a former member of the Arid Club. Earl and Marilyn are members of
Immanuel
Lutheran
Church
.
Earl is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marilyn York Rose;
sisters, Marian Frost and Barbara Barlow;
Brother, Dennis; daughter, Susan (Larry); sons, Mark
(Jacque), Earl III, and Jim (Shannon); grandchildren, Peter, Tim, Dan, Lisa,
Christopher, Jennifer, Jenny and Megan; and two great-granddaughters, Hanna and
Clara.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Keith,
and great-granddaughter Emily.
The family would like to thank the staff at Wynwood Assisted
Care and Horizon Hospice for their help and support.
Earl passed peacefully on May 6, 2012, surrounded by his
family with laughter and tears. We will
miss you Papa.
On May 11 at 2:00 pm, a memorial service will be held at
Immanuel Lutheran Church, 707 Fort Street, Boise, ID, with Pastor Neal Collins
officiating. A reception will follow the memorial service.
