Edna Gwendoline Siggelkow

Edna Gwendoline Siggelkow passed away February 17, 2024, with her family by her side.    She was 96.

Born in Cardiff, Wales UK on June 30, 1927, to James and Mary Watts and had two brothers, Jimmy and Kenneth and two sisters Nancy and Mavis, all deceased.

Edna was raised and educated in Cardiff and met Barney (Evan) Siggelkow during World War II while he was serving in the U.S. Army in Europe.   Barney, who was the staff sergeant, was driving down the street with his buddy when he spotted Edna walking down the street with her friend.  He offered her a stick of gum and the rest is history, they fell in love.  Barney came back to the states and after being separated for two years, a young Edna left her family and came to the United States on the Queen Elizabeth.   Barney drove from Idaho to New York to pick her up and drove her back to Boise, where they married and started their family and life together.

Edna, always so beautiful and elegant, was the tidiest of them all.  Her house and yard were both immaculate, and nothing ever out of place.   She loved her kids with her whole heart and was a stay-at-home mother to her four children, two sons (Larry and Garry) and two daughters (Starr and Susan).  She never missed out on any of her children’s activities.  PTA President, Brownie leader, room mother, etc.  Her love, Barney passed away in 1996, just 11 days before their 50th year wedding anniversary.

Edna had the most beautiful voice and loved music.  She was a member of the Melody Makers and sang at the Boise Rescue Mission and many nursing homes over the years.  Always singing for God.

She was the most devout Christian and believer in God and enjoyed sharing Bible verses she knew by memory.   Spending much of her time teaching Sunday school and conducting the church choir.  For fifty years of her life, she was a member of the Community Christian Center in Garden City, which was her second family.  She formed bonds and friendships that lasted her lifetime.   She had been a member of University Christian Church serving as Stephens Minister, Women’s Fellowship President and assistant Sunday School Teacher.  Most recently she was a member of Eagle Christian Church at Surprise Valley.  She felt so blessed for being a part of such incredible church communities.

Edna was a dedicated member of VFW Auxiliary 63 serving in many areas of this organization including State President, National Soloist and received awards for Volunteer work at the VA Hospital and State Veterans Home.  She also received the Mrs. VFW award.

When she wasn’t at church or visiting with friends, or volunteering, or watching her grandkids, you could find her in her immaculate yard. Gorgeous flowers, birdbaths with birds singing all around her, and fountains, and butterflies.  She had a magical gift with nature and would garden for hours and hours, sunrise to sunset.  Talking to Jesus all along the way.

Edna was always surrounded by family.  Her children and grandchildren always kept her very busy with sporting events, dance recitals, BBQ’s and birthday parties. She was always surrounded by so much love and a family that would do anything for each other.   She was the “Queen of the ball” with her beauty and grace and her sweet English accent.  Tea and Danishes and beautiful China.   We will forever miss her prayers, advice, and lessons on life.  She created the most beautiful life and family, and she will never be forgotten.   She is now reunited with her husband and her son, and home with Jesus in Heaven, exactly where she is meant to be.

Edna is survived by her son, Garry (Maria) Siggelkow, her daughters Starr (Roy) Johnson, Susan (Rendy) Moore.  Ten Grandchildren, Andrew Siggelkow, Mary Siggelkow, Justin (Kelly) Johnson, Eric (Connie) Johnson, Langdon (Sharon) Siggelkow, Lindsay (Danny) Parrish, Lacey Ann Hardy, Rebecca (Mike) Shawver, Jennifer Moore, Amanda Moore and eleven Great Grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husband Barney and her son Larry.

Services will be held March 1st at 11:00 am at Eagle Christian Church Surprise Valley, 4601 S. Surprise Way Boise.  A private burial will be held at Dry Creek Cemetery at 2:00 pm.

The family would like to thank St. Luke's Hospice for the loving care of our mother.
