Erle Edward
Fulghum, son of Edward B. Fulghum and Sabrina Smith Fulghum, passed away at his
home in Boise, on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, with his family surrounding him, at
the age of 95.
Erle was born in
Riverdale, CA, and welcomed by his sister Delores and his brother Leland. He
attended school in Lemoore, CA and graduated from Santa Maria Union High School
in 1933.
Known for running
low and high hurdles, his California State records held for years. Classmates
and teachers enjoyed his cartoon drawings that are treasured by his family and
friends.
Erle started his
work career as a bookkeeper for Security First National Bank of Los Angeles. He
married Cecile Elizabeth Deleissegues on May 18, 1941 in Santa Maria, CA. He
designed their first home to start their married life in.
His military
career started as an Air Corp cadet in March of 1942. He earned his bombardier
wings at Victorville, CA, graduating in 1942. He served as a bombardier trainer
in Casper, WY after being grounded due to an inner ear problem. He was sent to
Harrisburg, PA for intelligence training and served as an aerial photo interpreter
with the 13
th
Air Force in the South Pacific for 22 months, on the Solomon
and Philippine Islands. He was honorably discharged in March 1946.
Returning to
Security First National Bank in Santa Maria, he re-embarked on his banking
career.
In October, 1951,
Erle and Cecile welcomed their son John into the family. In 1963 the family
moved to Boise and Erle joined the Bank of Idaho as their main office manager.
He retired in 1976 as executive vice-president.
He was an “avid”
Bronco fan and a current member of the Elks Lodge.
He loved his wife
Cecile and son John (who loved his dry sense of humor), and he loved a good dry
martini.
Earle was preceded
in death by his parents, siblings and beloved Basenji, “Misty.” He is
remembered by Cecile, John, and his wife LeaAnn, niece Lory, and numerous
nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Memorial
contributions may be made to the Idaho Food Bank or a charity of your choice,
in remembrance of Erle.
A graveside committal
service will be held for family and friends on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at
11:00 a.m. at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery with military honors by the
United States Army.
