Esther Emily Cooper Hanley Nov. 6, 1920 - June 21,2014

Esther wa s born at St . Lukes Hospital in Boise to Harr y (Hendr i ck) Johannes Cooper ( Kuiper ) and Ada Wilton Cooper . She lived her entire life in southeast Boise , attending G a rfield School and Boise High School g raduat i ng in 1 9 38. The Cooper household wa s v er y bus y wi th 8 children , plus her Grandmothe r l iv ed wi th them . Bein g r ai sed in a Chr is t ian hom e , Es ther spoke of da i l y Bible read i n g s and s ingin g h y mns around the dinner table a n d pia no , w ith not onl y her i mmed ia te famil y, but with e x tended famil y members also . This m a d e an impres s ion th at s tayed w ith her t o the end of her life . She often talked of how it was l i ving through the Depression era , and there were lean times - but with the lo v e and faith i n their family - i t l e ft her with many wonde r ful memories .

It wa s a t this t ime that she met ( John ) Ste w ar t Hanl ey . The y were married on Oct . 10 , 1943, and she bec a me a full-time w i fe , mother , grandmother and homemaker .

She and Stewart raised 3 child r en . Her f a mil y , her hom e & the l o v e o f God we re her w hole life .
She chose to be a homem a ke r , a n d s he e x celled a t it , a s o ur h o m e was alwa ys i n v it in g a nd war m , and w a s a retrea t f rom the s t re s s es of ev er y da y l i fe . She a l way s h a d a g arden and a lar g e amount of home-canned food i tems ever y y ear . She w as an e x cellent cook , a nd w e had many lar g e dinners and g atherin g s in our home .

She w a s an a rdent Bib l e student , belon gi n g to the Bible Student s o f Bo is e . Sh e l i v ed f or God and His s on , Jesu s Christ , and as a t eenage r , w a s b a p ti zed i n t he Boi se r iv er . Later , as an adult , a f te r mu c h Bible stud y , she made a full consecration of her life to God . In 1 9 74 , she and her husband w e r e baptized together . The y attended local Bible studies se v eral times a wee k , and went to man y Bible Student con v entions .

E sther lon g ed for the promised c om i n g K i n g dom that w a s s ecured b y Christ pa y ing the Ran s om pr i ce for all mankind on t he cro s s - spoken o f throu g hout th e Bible .

E sther had the w onderful characteristic of overlooking the f a ults of othe r s . When hurt b y others , s he e as il y for g a v e t hem , and mo v ed on as i f noth i n g had h a ppened . A nd , i t w as t rul y for g o t ten.

As w e w ere gro w ing up , w e ne v er he a rd ou r fat h er and mo t her ar g ue . Their de v otion t o God and each other wa s a wonderful example to us as their children.

Esther and Ste w art spent summ e rs at th e i r place i n Donnell y i n late r y e ars , and lo v ed t o t r a ve l unt i l Ste w art 's de a th i n Feb. of 1 992 - af te r 4 8 1/2 y e ar s of m ar ri age .

Esther w as preced e d i n death b y her hu s b a nd , Stew art , her m o th e r a nd fa ther , bab y b r oth e r J a me s , older brother Da v id Coope r , brothe r Paul Coope r and her g r an ddau ghter , Je n n y Hasselb r in g Keefe .

E sther is survived by her children , Jo y ce a nd John Ruparc i c of Boise, Steve and Sand y Hanle y of Longv i ew , W A . , and Jeanne and John U rle za g a o f B o ise . Grandchildr e n : J.J . ( John ) and L ind a Rupar c i c of West Po i nt , U t a h , Brian Rupa r c i c of Boi s e , Sc o t t an d Tif fan y Ha nl ey of Hillsb o r o , OR . , Spen c e r and Jenifer Hanle y o f V a nc o uver , W A . Great - g randchildr e n : Jace N oeldner o f B o i se, S et h and Lu c as H a nle y o f Hillsboro , OR . , Lijah , I s aiah , Meron and Beth H a nle y o f Vancou v er , WA . , Luca s and JaiCi Keefe of Boise . The family would like to thank the staff at Avamere Transitional Care and the St. Luke's Hospice team for their c a re of Mom dur i n g the la s t few months .

There w ill be a viewing held at A lden Wa g goner Funeral Chapel 5400 Fair vi ew Av e . today , June 24th from 6-8 PM


Funeral services will be held at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, June 25th at 2 PM.
