Ethel A. (Smith) Porter passed away at home on January 3, 2013.
Ethel was born in Wilson, Oklahoma on May 27, 1919. She was the
first born of two daughters of William Jasper Morgan and Susie Clevenger
Morgan. At an early age, her family moved from Oklahoma to Kansas. It was in
Kansas that she attended school and met Earl W. Smith, aka "Smitty",
whom she married after graduation.
The couple moved, along with her parents and sister, to Idaho
where they bought a farm south of Nampa. The land had one building on it, a
chicken coop. They cleaned up that chicken coop and wallpapered the inside.
They had never wallpapered before but that didn't matter. They took to the task
and after they were finished with the whole thing, they realized they had hung
the paper upside down! The two of them lived 'quite cozy' in that coop for a
couple years until they could afford to build a house. Ethel and Smitty had two
children, Sharon and Jamey. Ethel and Smitty divorced, but remained friends.
Ethel worked as a sales lady at The Mode in downtown Boise. She
was one of their top sales ladie

she loved her job!
