Ethel A. (Smith) Porter

Ethel A. (Smith) Porter passed away at home on January 3, 2013.

Ethel was born in Wilson, Oklahoma on May 27, 1919. She was the first born of two daughters of William Jasper Morgan and Susie Clevenger Morgan. At an early age, her family moved from Oklahoma to Kansas. It was in Kansas that she attended school and met Earl W. Smith, aka "Smitty", whom she married after graduation.

The couple moved, along with her parents and sister, to Idaho where they bought a farm south of Nampa. The land had one building on it, a chicken coop. They cleaned up that chicken coop and wallpapered the inside. They had never wallpapered before but that didn't matter. They took to the task and after they were finished with the whole thing, they realized they had hung the paper upside down! The two of them lived 'quite cozy' in that coop for a couple years until they could afford to build a house. Ethel and Smitty had two children, Sharon and Jamey. Ethel and Smitty divorced, but remained friends.
Ethel worked as a sales lady at The Mode in downtown Boise. She was one of their top sales ladie s and she loved her job!

She m arried George C. Porter in 19 7 2. The couple enjoyed traveling together all over the USA. Geor g e died in 1984. She a nd Smitty were both widowers and still friends. They once again became a couple, and she care d for him until his death in 1998. Ethel was an amazing woman. She could accomplish anything she put her mind to.

Ethel is survived by her son Jamey and his wife Lee of Wasilla, AK; five grandchildren , Lindsey Lopez, Joy Smith, and Molly Smith, all of Walla Walla, WA and Tim Smith and Sherrie Smith, both of Seattle, WA; seven great-grandchildren, Kayla Standard, Solomon Lopez, Zachariah Lopez, Leilani Lopez , Hope McMann, Lexie Smith and Savannah Smith, all of Walla Walla, WA; a niece, Karen Thiel and husband Jim of Boise; and three stepchildren, George Porter and wife Lesa, Bonnie Dilworth and husband Jerr y, all of Nampa, and Dan Porter of Garden City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, a daughter Sharon Hopper, a sister Ellen Talich, and a niece Nancy Greenwell.

Memorial services were conducted at Alden Waggoner Funeral Chapel Wednesday, January 9, at 10:30.
