Frances A. Garrett was born
in Oakland, CA, Sept. 1, 1914 to Walter Ransom Moody and
Anna Elizabeth (Davis) Moody. She was raised on the family farm
in Sacramento with two sisters and two brothers. The children all
attended a one room schoolhouse. The farm was an endless source of activity,
mischief and fun for these close knit siblings. Frances attended High
School in Sacramento, and then found nursing to be her lifelong calling.
She attended nursing school in San Francisco in the 1930s, at the same
time the Golden Gate Bridge was being built. She was married to James Eldridge,
and then later to Edgar E. Garrett.
After nursing
school, Frances worked as a nurse in Sacramento until the
family moved to San Diego in 1958. She returned to nursing
in Sacramento in 1967 for a few years and then her talent for care
extended into working with troubled children for several years at the
Sacramento Children’s Home. She later finished her career as a personal
caregiver with private patients that were terminally ill. Frances moved
to Boise, ID in 1996 to be near her only son Bill. She continued to work as a
caregiver in Boise until 2006 retiring at the age of 91.
Her caring nature extended beyond
people. She also loved to take care of plants and flowers, even having friends
bringing sick plants for her to nurse back to health. Frances also
loved her trips to Reno and a good day (and night) at the slot
machines.
Frances is survived by her
brother Bill Moody, a very close cousin Vivian, son William Eldridge and his
wife Gail; grandchildren, Jennifer Butler, Jordon Eldridge, and Elizabeth
Parker; and great-grandchildren, Jenna, Emily, Joseph, Grace,
Baylee, Addison and Isabelle; and several special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents;
sisters, Genevieve and Ida-Adelle; and her brother, Jack.
Her family would like to thank
Paramount Park Eagle, Treasure Valley Hospice and her doctor, Lisa Kern, for
their excellent care of Frances.
No formal services will be held,
cremation arrangements are under the direction of Alden-Waggoner Funeral
Chapel, Boise. Inurnment will take place in Sacramento, at the family
plot in Masonic Lawn Cemetery.
