Frank Clinton Eichelberger

Frank C. Eichelberger, 90, died Saturday, March 22, 2014 from complications of a stroke at his home of 56 years, attended by family. Frank was born in Boise, Idaho on December 26, 1923, the youngest son of Horace Carl Eichelberger and Frances Elizabeth Mock.
Frank grew up on 26th street in Boise's North End. He attended Lowell Elementary and was on the school patrol. He also attended North Junior High before moving to Kuna in 1938, where he graduated.
Frank enjoyed mechanical things all his life. As a child, his prized possession was a coaster wagon; his favorite books were by Tom Swift because he wrote about gasoline engines, cars and airplanes. His favorite hobby was playing with an old Maytag washing machine engine.
Frank worked two different full time jobs on farms, but did not take to it. He briefly worked for a mine company in Atlanta, Idaho, before joining the Army. He went overseas in 1944 and received a  Bronze Star. After WWII, he joined the Army Reserve, transferred to the Army National Guard and then to the Air National Guard because of full time employment. He was activated during the Korean War to the Air Force and was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant. Stateside, he climbed to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer W-4 and was in charge of the motor pool at Gowen Field until his retirement in 1983.
He married Ileta Lois Woodard at Kuna Baptist Church on May 5, 1946. They were married nearly 62 years.
Frank was an active member of Whitney Baptist Church for more than 60 years, serving as treasurer, usher, school bus driver, and helping with various construction projects.
Frank enjoyed boating, water-skiing, camping, bicycling, CB radio, but especially motorcycle riding. He covered many thousands of miles, mostly on the West Coast and the Southern United States. Many trips were taken with his oldest brother, Lynn. His last long trip was to Texas in his mid-eighties and his last ride was at 89 to Mountain Home Air Force Base to pick up his prescriptions, with his cane strapped on!
Frank is survived by his two daughters, Shirley Eichelberger of Fall Creek, OR, and Wanda and husband Vern Barnett of Boise, ID; daughter-in-law Juni Eichelberger St. Clair of Boise, ID; Grandchildren: Jodi Eichelberger, New York, NY, Angela and husband Joshua Tran, Beaverton, OR, Kendra and husband Sean Rasmussen, Boise, ID, Tami McAllister and husband Jeremiah Emmons, Chattanooga, TN, and Kricket Eichelberger of Boise, ID; Great-granchildren: Nataya and Traece Rasmussen, Grace and Eileeta Tran, and Eliot Emmons.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kenneth; wife, Lois; and brothers Lynn and Don Eichelberger.
Honoring Frank begins with a viewing for family and friends at the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel on Thursday, March 27 from 5-7 p.m.
Graveside services will be at Dry Creek Cemetery Friday, March 28 at 10:30 a.m. A Memorial Service will follow at 12 noon at Whitney Baptist Church, 2309 Dorian Street, Boise, with reception following.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Whitney Baptist Church.
