Born on May 8
th
, 1930 in San Francisco, Papa was
orphaned at an early age and was raised on a foster home farm in Petaluma,
CA.
Upon graduation from Santa Rosa
High School in 1948 Papa enlisted in the US Navy.
He served honorably on the USS Ticonderoga,
the USS Ranger, the USS Hancock, and the USS Intrepid during the Korean
Conflict and Vietnam War. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1971.
While in the Navy he met and married the
love of his life, June Rice Ipsen.
Together,
they loved, supported, and raised two sons Curtis Rice Ipsen and Christopher
George Ipsen.
As a family they traveled
between New Jersey, Washington, Tennessee, California, and Nevada.
On the passing of his wife June, Papa joined the family of his
son Curt. Papa soon thereafter became
aware of his desire to be a God fearing man.
Wholeheartedly and faithfully serving the Lord with a world wide
non-denominational Christian Fellowship.
Papa, with family eventually moved to Boise, ID meeting and developing
friendships with many individuals until his passing on August 14, 2013.
Papa was a hard working, quiet, generous man filled with
love and a profound sense of honor, integrity, and humor. Papa was preceded by
his wife June and granddaughter Alison and survived by his sons Curt (Jonna)
and Chris (Jennifer) and grandchildren Erin Lathlean (Scott), Erik Ipsen
(Dana), Jennifer Ipsen (Ethan Hansen), Gillian Ipsen, Miles Ipsen, and Liam
Ipsen. Papa had a wide range of passions
including spending time vacationing with family at Disney, supporting many
sports teams including Boise State athletics, the San Francisco Giants and
49ers. Papa enjoyed fishing, bowling,
and playing a round of golf.
Funeral services will be held at Alden Waggoner Funeral Ch
apel on Tuesday, August 20 at 9:00am. Buried with full military honors at Veterans
Cemetery in Boise, Idaho.
