Genevieve (Gen) Gardner passed away peacefully on Saturday
November 29, 2014. Gen was born in Staples, Minnesota to Henry and Minnie
Klappenbach on May 27, 1921; and was known as Nieve to many. She
graduated from high school in Lewiston, Idaho and attended Lewis and Clark
Normal School, now known as Lewis and Clark Community College.
Gen’s claim to fame was being one of the original
Rosie the Riveters. She used to say, “I bucked rivets on B-17’s
and B-24’s.” During this time she met her
husband, Jack E.
Gardner. They had two sons; Steven R Gardner and Dave Gardner. Gen
was an avid Boise State fan. She held season tickets to both the men’s
basketball and football teams. She was also on a mixed-double’s bowling
league when she was younger. She spent many years making beautiful
pottery at Fort Boise and also enjoyed knitting. All grandkids were
guaranteed a new pair of knitted slippers as Christmas gifts. Gen always
had a special spot in her heart for cats, she adopted and cared for many
fortunate strays over the years. She is survived by her two sons; Steven R Gardner (Whitney) of Nampa,
Idaho; Dave Gardner of Winter Park,
Florida; Four grandchildren; Chris
Gardner(Amy), Amy K. Gardner, Ryan
Gardner(Michelle) & Mark Gardner
(Sierra). She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren (Roman,
Hailey, Drake, Callan, Corbin, Tyler and Micah). She was preceded in
death by her parents and her sister;
