George Owen Caesar (nearly 98 years) passed away on October 5, 2016 at the Idaho State Veteran’s Home in Boise.
George was born on November 29, 1918 in Helena, MT to Charles T. Caesar and Nancy Perry Caesar.
George was an explorer, fisherman, hunter, cowboy, miner and “Jack of all trades”.
He married Mary Alice Atkinson in August of 1942 and then served in the Pacific during WWII. George and Mary and their five children settled in Boise after George tried his hand in mining and engineering in Canada, Washington and Alaska. George worked primarily in real estate and with Idaho Title Company in Boise, but there was no legal, legislative or other topic that he could not hold forth on---and he did.
He was a charter member and president of the Vista Lion’s Club and made a run for Ada County Commissioner in 1960. When Boise was a bit smaller, he was a familiar face about town and introduced many newcomers to the riches of Idaho, especially favorite fishing holes!
He and Mary proudly sent their children to St Mary’s, St Theresa’s and Bishop Kelly schools.
George was cared for in his last years by his dear and devoted daughter-in- law, Roselle Renk Caesar. Roselle made it possible for George to live in his own home until his recent move to the Veteran’s Home. George also had a very caring neighbor, Marian Murrell, who was a true blessing to George and all of the family.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice; his son, Tom; his daughter, Sylvia Boyle; his son, Joseph and his brother, Ted. He is survived by his daughters, Ginny Potter (George) of McMinnville, OR, and Stella Calza (Roger) of Moscow, ID. He is also survived by his sister, Teta Fazendin of Minnesota, 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A family memorial has been held and inurnment will be at the Idaho Veteran’s Cemetery.
Memorials: Salesian and Maryknoll Missions.
