Gerald Dean “Jerry” Schimmel, 80, of Boise, passed away on
March 18, 2015. Funeral services will be
held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 26, 2015 at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Home.
Following the funeral, we will travel by procession to the Idaho State Veterans
Cemetery for military honors to begin at 3:00 p.m. A reception to celebrate Jerry and his love,
Marlene, will occur at 5:00 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on
Thursday, March 25, 2015 from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m.
Jerry was born October 16, 1934 in Algona, Iowa to John and
Myrtle (Williams) Schimmel. He graduated
from Algona High School and later joined the U.S. Army where he served from
1953 to 1955. While in the service,
Jerry met Marlene. He proposed to her on
Wednesday, August 15, 1956 at East Park in Mason City, Iowa. They were married on April 12, 1958 at Wesley
Methodist Church in Mason City. Together they lived, laughed, and loved in many
places including Des Moines, Minneapolis, Sioux Falls, and Boise.
Jerry served his country during the
Korean War era. Following his honorable
discharge as a SP3, he had a long career as an electrician. Despite retirement, Jerry continued to work
for Alloway Lighting until March 2015.
Jerry’s hobbies included fishing, gardening, tinkering, watching BSU
football, and spoiling his dogs. Jerry
had a great sense of humor and was always willing to share a joke. He had a heart-warming smile. Anyone lucky enough to have met Jerry knows
that he had a strong heart, loved his wife exponentially, and was a man of
great faith.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Kimberly K. Schimmel of
Boise; son, James D. Schimmel of California; grandson, Jeremiah L (Janet Pao) Schimmel; grandson, Jason T. (Yvonne Vaughan) Dunbar;
and great-grandchildren, Jace, Serenity, JennaRose,
Lillia and Joelle. He was preceded in
death by his wife, Marlene, his parents, and his many siblings.
Jerry will be greatly missed and will always remain in the
hearts of his family and friends.
Jerry’s family takes solace in knowing that Jerry and Marlene are
forever reunited.
