Glenn Shannon, 96, passed away on
Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011 in a local care home.
Glenn
was born in Weiser, Idaho on the 27
th
of
January 1915 to Ed and Fannie Shannon. After his birth
,
the
family moved to Council, Idaho to engage in the livestock and ranching business
.
Glenn
attended school in Council and after graduating
,
attended
the University of Idaho where he received a degree in accounting in 1938
.
In
1941, like so many of the greatest generation, Glenn answered the call of his
country and joined the United States Army Air Corps. He served as an accountant
on General Douglas MacArthur
'
s staff as a Staff Sergeant,
and was credited with participation in the Bismarck Archipelago
,
New
Guinea, and Luzon campaigns during World War II. He was awarded the Philippine
L
i
beration Medal with one bronze star
,
the
American Defense Service Medal, the American Theater Serv
i
ce Medal
,
Asiatic
Pacific Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was discharged from the
Air Corps on the 4
t
h
of
November 1945
.
Upon
discharge from the Air Corps, Glenn became an office manager of a retail
automotive business and lived the life of a bachelor. Everything changed for
Glenn in 1976 when he met and soon married Hazel Steele. Glenn and Hazel spent
many winters living the RV life
,
hauling their beloved alpenlite
fifth wheel between Yuma, Arizona and New Plymouth, Idaho. They enjoyed camping
with
friends and family whenever they had the chance.
After
Hazel's death in August of 1996
,
Glenn spent his days in New
Plymouth checking on the well being of his friends and was always happy to help
out those in need
.
He loved learning to operate a computer so he could stay active
in the stock market and continually proved to his family the amazing level of
his intelligence. As Glenn got on in years
,
he moved
to Boise to spend his remaining days
.
Glenn
Shannon was part of the greatest generation who put their country's needs above
their own and who continue to serve as examples for future generations to
follow
.

his wife Hazel Shannon
.
Glenn is survived by his step children

Stewart

Larry and JoAnn Steele
,
Pete and
Linda Steele and numerous grandchildren.
