Gloria Lee Stanton

August 18, 1939 — September 17, 2024

Meridian

Gloria Lee Gorringe Stanton passed peacefully with many family members there to comfort her on Tuesday, September 17th, 2024. Her family will miss her greatly. Gloria was born on August 18th, 1939, in Burley, Idaho to Ellen Margaret and Lawrence Read Gorringe. Gloria was the oldest of five children and lived her early years in Oakley and Ketchum, Idaho. She loved her days making mudpies with her friends, and watching the train come through the small town of Ketchum, Idaho from her upstairs bedroom window. She saw President Truman come to town on the train, when he made a special campaign stop in June of 1948. In 1954 she left her beloved Ketchum and moved with her family to Boise, Idaho, when her father accepted a position with Boise School District. She graduated from Boise High School in 1957 and attended Boise State University, where she met her husband Bob (Robert C.) Stanton. They had two children, a son, Brian Stanton and a daughter, Jenny (Stanton) Coleman. Gloria was active in the Methodist Church, League of Women Voters, March of Dimes, PTA, Girl Scouts of America, and worked part time as a bookkeeper for the Mode O’ Day, while living in Pocatello, Idaho. Gloria loved colleting special mementos and small treasures that kept her most memorable moments close to her. Gloria would agree the most important thing she collected was “friends”. Whether it was the special connections she made with the employees of Intermountain Gas Company, where Bob worked for over 40 years, the strangers she started a conversation with on trips around Idaho, Nampa High Boosters, young mothers she shared a co-op preschool with, or the many classmates from both Hailey and Boise, Idaho- she kept in touch with all of her adult life- the common thread here was, “Gloria never met a stranger.” As stated by her family many times. Gloria leaves behind Bob, Brian, and Jenny (Barry), along with her 7 grandchildren, Nicholas Fisk (Jordan), Cody Gough (Riki), McKensie Stanton, Alex Fisk (Alyssa), Tanner Fisk (Kenzie), Shelby Fisk, and Brayden Coleman, 6 greatgrandchildren Ever, Oliver, Ainsley, and Kellen Fisk, Cooper and Elliot Gough, and siblings Vicki Hull, Judy Huizinga, Jim Gorringe, sister-in-law Beth Gorringe, daughter-in-law Suzanne Jarding Wingo, many dearly loved nieces, nephews, and their children.
