Born to Richard Irvin Paul Snyder and Annabelle Charlotte
Whitaker Snyder at Chehalis, Washington.
She attended many different schools while following her father who
worked for MK including schools in California, Washington, Idaho and
Montana. She graduated in May 1940 from
Leavenworth High School. She married
Harrison Cornelius Stager on June 29, 1942.
They had known each other for 6 weeks.
She was preceded in death by both parents, husband, infant
daughter, 2 sisters, Kathleen Virginia and Marylou Elliott and granddaughter
Heather Michelle Stager Gray. She is
survived by 1 brother, Sherman Richard and Yvonne Snyder who reside in Hayden ,
Idaho. Daughter Judith Stager
Southerland VanOver and Fred. Sons Richard Harrison and Cindy Stager of
Lewiston, Idaho and J. Michael and Becky Stager of Boise. Four grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and
4 great great-grandchildren, one to be born in February, and several nieces and
nephews.
Betty’s work history included Convair Consolidated which
built airplanes during the Korean Conflict.
She also worked in movie houses.
She worked at the Boise Hotel, Owyhee Hotel, Royal Restaurant and The
Plaza, all in Boise. She worked in Lake
Tahoe at the Sahara Casino. She trained
many bus boys one being her future son-in-law (Fred). She worked at Finch Brown Company as front
receptionist. She also worked at the
Mode and Bakers Shoe Store. She went to
work for the Boise National Forest Service under the “c-sep”(Scep) Senior
Community Employment Program. She gave
training sessions on this program in Washington DC, Billings, Montana, Denver,
Colorado, South Dakota, Salt Lake City and San Diego, California. When the program stated to put 3 people to work
at the age of 55 or above, she put 23 to work.
She received many commendations for her work. She worked until the age of 84.
She volunteered for several years accumulating 7,284 hours
in the Gift Shop at St. Alphonsus.
She was a lifetime member of Eastern Star, Adah #8. She became Worthy Matron in 1989-1990. She was an advisor to the Rainbow Girls for
several years. She was also a former
Rainbow Girl herself. She was a member
of American Business Women’s Assoc. LesBoise chapter and Syringa Chapter for 40
years. She held many offices and
chairmanships. She was named Woman of
the Year several times.
Betty was Grandma Betty to every child whom she came in
contact with. She was loved by many
other adopted grandchildren as well.
