On the morning of March 28, 2012,
Guerdon D. Tormohlen (better known to family and friends as Gus) passed away
nearly one month after celebrating his 90th birthday.
On February 23, 1922, Guerdon was
born to parents William F. Tormohlen and Rosena Steinhoff in Ft. Morgan, CO as
the second of their four children (Leora Sharp, Russell Tormohlen and Milton
Tormohlen). Guerdon resided in Colorado for the first part of his life where he
met and married wife Betty J. Gammel (deceased September 2005); the couple had
children Van G. Tormohlen and Faye Kirby in their 59-years of celebrated
marriage.
After 33-years of Colorado life
(where Guerdon worked and owned his own farm) he and his family moved to Boise,
ID in 1955. During his time in Boise, Guerdon continued to farm for an
additional two years before becoming a Truck Driver, and worked as-such until
his retirement in the mid 1980’s.
Following the passing of Betty,
Guerdon sold their long time home and headed west to Newport, OR to live with
his daughter Faye from 2006-2009. Eventually, Guerdon made the decision to
spend the remainder of his days in Monroe, WA near his son Van, daughter-in-law
Holly and grandchildren Nic and Katie. The final move allowed for more frequent
family gatherings, holiday celebrations and much-needed time before his recent
passing.
In his life Guerdon served in the
United States Air Force as a Sheet Metal Worker during WWII, tinkered on cars
and stained glass projects in his spare time, and even enjoyed a few crazy
adventures in his youth.
Guerdon is survived by
brother
Milton Tormohlen, sister-in-law Clarine, daughter
Faye Kirby, son Van Tormohlen, daughter-in-law Holly Batt-Tormohlen,
grandchildren Nic and Katie Tormohlen, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Those closest to Guerdon have
been saddened by his passing, but invite all those who knew and loved Gus to
attend his graveside service, to be held at the Terrace Lawn Cemetery (Boise,
ID) at 10:00 AM on Saturday April 7, 2012. Arrangements are under the direction
of Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise. In lieu of flowers, the family
requests donations be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Guerdon
D. Tormohlen.
